GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

TheCorrections Agriculture Crops Program Supervisoris an integral member of our team at the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton WY! We are seeking to hire a selfmotivated hardworking leader with knowledge in farming and crop management. This position provides instruction guidance and supervision to the inmate population who work in the agriculture program at WHF and reports directly to the Agricultural Program Manager. With the Wyoming Department of Corrections you will contribute to public safety by exercisingreasonable safe secure and humane management while actively providing offenders opportunities to become lawabiding citizens.

The Wyoming Honor Farm houses 289 adult male offenders and is classified as a minimum custody facility. Established in 1931 the Honor Farm is located one mile north of Riverton WY. The Honor Farms agricultural programs began in 1988 and play an essential role in inmate rehabilitation by providing an opportunity for inmates to learn how to respect and maintain farming equipment; grow and provide necessary feed to sustain the agriculture operation of 300 head of cattle and 200 horses; and build a healthy work ethic to include responsibility critical thinking skills innovation and humility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.

  • Provides instruction on agricultural management topics.
  • Crop Production Program: Provides instruction on proper pasture irrigation technique plant and soil sciences equipment operation and the principles and practices of agronomy to include tillage planting cultivation and harvesting of a variety of forage crops.
  • Supervises directs and instructs daily work and training assignments for all inmates in the program.
  • Manage a produce garden from seeds to harvest to help kitchen nutrition and feeding the inmates.
  • Manages the production of alfalfa hay grain hay and corn silage to utilize the acreage for the most efficient amount of production.
  • Determines equipment needs and acquires equipment materials and instructional supplies following program needs and cost analysis.
  • Helps Vocational Technology Supervisor to service and have all farm equipment ready for the farming season.
  • Participates in the overall management and assessment of individual inmates by providing written staff reports written or verbal work performance evaluations and attending team meetings to discuss inmate management issues.
  • Working within a fixed budget orders and maintains program equipment and supplies performs bids for fertilizer seed and twine and tracks and manages inmate payroll.
  • Assists security personnel to ensure the security and accountability of all inmates in the program and other departments when the facility in on emergency status.
  • Observes inmate work performance and behavior to provide encouragement for positive performance direction for improvement and to initiate corrective action when necessary.
  • Attends preservice and regular inservice trainings to stay abreast of inmate management issues and to ensure facility policies procedures and security protocols are implemented and followed.
  • Assists other work training programs as needed in the management of inmates and the performance of duties including Beef Herd Management Vocation Technology and Wild Horse Program as part of a cohesive team with the other members of the Agriculture team.

Preference may be given to applicants with a farming background or experience in Agriculture.
