Job Description

The Service Engineer (SE) Salary up to 35k plus company van.

The geographical area to be covered will primarily be Bristol and Birmingham so the ideal location would be somewhere within easy commute to both so along the M5 corridor.  Gloucester or Cheltenham would be perfect.

In this role the Service Engineer has an overall responsibility for:

  • Hands on servicing and repair of water treatment equipment.
  • Undertaking scheduled contract service visits and oneoff planned service visits outside of contract
  • Emergency call out activity occasionally outside normal working hours.
  • Repair of customer equipment.
  • Installation of new equipment where required.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To undertake installation commissioning servicing calibration fault finding and repair or replacement of components and equipment on all jobs and specialist projects allotted to them.
  • To carry out routine maintenance of equipment and systems included in the periodic service contracts allotted to them efficiently and cost effectively. To use initiative to resolve technical and application problems on site with minimum disruption to the client.
  • To develop skills and knowledge beyond their basic trade and to service and repair equipment which falls within the scope of the job as directed by the Service Manager and for which training has or is being given as necessary.
  • To gain a working knowledge of the equipment manufactured supplied and supported by the company including some third party equipment and develop a basic understanding of the applications they are used in.
  • To have a good knowledge of administrative procedures associated with the job use the company provided tools and systems and comply with company policies procedures and guidelines.
  • Produce accurate and informative service reports on the completion of each job detailing what work was done and any recommendations or further work that requires to be done.
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • To requisition spares and replacement parts from the office/stores and to maintain stock in accordance with Company procedures.
  • To acquire a working knowledge in the use of specialist tools and test equipment relating to the job and to keep secure and in good working order all Company equipment allocated to them.
  • To actively promote the Companys products and services feeding back sales leads to the office. To maintain and project a highquality Company image at all times and to confirm to the levels of integrity necessary when working in the customers premises.
  • Where appropriate and as approved by the Service Manager assist with the formal onsite training of Trainees. To provide technical expertise in resolving site problems as and when required.
  • To attend training courses as directed by the Service Manager.
  • Be available to work out with normal working hours as and when required including at weekends and to participate in the Companys out of hours emergency work oncall rota system.
  • Be able and prepared to take on short term assignments anywhere in the UK with reasonable notice.
  • Contribute to achieving Company strategies commitments and objectives The Service Teams KPIs and targets and any personal objectives that may be assigned.
  • To be responsible for their own health and safety and the health and safety of others that may be affected through their actions or omissions. To pay particular attention to and comply with the Health Safety Environmental Quality Security and Site policies rules and instructions as issued by the Company and those of the Companys clients.
  • To report to management all accidents incidents near misses or malpractice and assist with the investigation and corrective actions.
  • To be responsible for the allocated Company vehicle and to ensure that it is roadworthy and the maintenance and cleanliness conform to statutory regulations and Company requirements.
  • The role may also be required to carry out any other duties within the scope and purpose of this role as reasonably request by your line manager and in line with business needs.

Qualifications :

Essential

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification Level 3 or higher
  • Plant maintenance/fault finding experience
  • Able to work on own with minimal supervision
  • General computer literacy

Preferred

  • Electromechanical apprenticeship or equivalent
  • ONC or HNC in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or similar
  • 18th Edition Qualified
  • Experience with water purification equipment and systems
  • Previous relative experience as a mobile service engineer


Key Requirements

  • Post holder must hold a full valid Driving licence for use in the UK
  • Must be able to travel within region with occasional stays overnight as required
  • The post holder will once fully competent and inducted be included in an on call rota which may include occasional out of hours weekend working and emergency callouts.
