- This is a seasonal program that runs from approximately May 2025 through September 2025.
The Michigan Department of Transportations (MDOT) Southwest Region is looking for Team Members who are 1618yearold high school students and recent high school graduates as part of our Summer Youth Group (SYG). The SYG is centered around enhancing communication skills participating in diverse teams developing good work habits and learning about employment opportunities at MDOT.
As a Team Member in the SYG you will have the opportunity to perform work activities that may include but are not limited to enhancing landscaping; weeding and removing vegetation around guardrails and road signs; painting ParkNRide lot posts; cleaning rest areas/welcome centers; repairing and maintaining rest areas features (picnic tables posts etc.); enhancing roadside parks and scenic turnouts; removing litter; and assisting with erosioncontrol measures and cleaning out outlets.
Team Member eligibility requirements:
- Currently enrolled in high school with a proposed 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA or a recent graduate. Transcripts confirming this will be required at time of interview.
- At least 16 years of age or older.
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a schoolteacher coach counselor or principal which will be required at time of interview.
- Posses a valid school issued work permit if applicable.
- Pass a preparticipant drug test.
- 40hour work week availability.
- Ability to work outside and transport up to 45 pounds.
- Ability to traverse uneven terrain and work on roadsides.
- Willingness and ability to follow instructions.
