IT Security & Compliance Specialist

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is seeking applicants for anIT Security Compliance Specialist II (Working Title: IT Security Compliance Specialist) for ourOffice of Cybersecurity and Risk Management.

The Office of Digital Learning and Technology Services provides leadership of IT and digital learning initiatives. Included in this Office are the divisions of Digital Teaching and Learning Enterprise Architecture Desktop Support Shared Services Project Management IT Systems Modernization Facilitation of the NC Textbook Commission and facilitation of the Contracts under the purview of the commission and the ReThink K12 grant.

The IT Security and Compliance Specialist II ensures the security of IT systems and compliance of data security policies.

• Identifies analyzes and mitigates threats to internal information technology (IT) systems and/or networks.
• Monitors network to actively remediate unauthorized activities and responds to crises or urgent situations within the infrastructure to mitigate immediate and potential threats.
• Work also involves performing assessments of systems and networks within the network and identifying where those systems/networks deviate from acceptable configurations agency policies and state and federal regulations.
• Evaluates and recommends security products services and/or procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
• Evaluate and document data sharing requests for cybersecurity and ensure vendor compliance with the NC Security Manual.
• Work includes monitoring security tools investigating events for risk to data and systems and ensuring that risks are mitigated.
• Additional duties as needed.

• Demonstrated experience documenting and/or maintaining security policies and/or processes.
• Demonstrated experience in incident handling methodologies.
• Demonstrated experience in detection identification and alerting of possible attacks.
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership on complex projects.
• Demonstrated experience with IT security industry and/or federal and/or state regulations that have an impact on the states technological business.

Bachelors degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area; or Associate degree in computer science or a related IT field or related degree from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of progressive experience in IT Security or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
