Job Description

The Day Surgery Supervisor promotes and restores patients health by completing the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients friends and families; supervising assigned team members. Nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act hospital Nursing Department and regulatory standards.

Responsible for care of patients in the Outpatient day surgery/GI/PACU/ Infusion Clinic.

Position is eligible for $3.50 Supervisor differential.

  • Promotes the mission vision and values of the organization.
  • Collaborates and works closely with the PeriOperative Director & Clinical Care Coordinator to promote a united workforce.
  • Collaborates and establishes a strong working relationship with all surgeons and provides clear communication to the sales representatives; must be approachable and maintain open communication with the surgical team.
  • Assures Sales Representatives are logging into reptrack correctly when they are on campus.
  • Oversees the daily workflow staffing orientation training disciplinary actions and developing of employees in collaboration with the Clinical Care Coordinator and PeriOperative Director.
  • Nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act hospital Nursing Department and regulatory and maintains a culture of safety & quality.
  • Is able to perform disciplinary actions and is able to direct difficult conversations when needed.
  • Lead and direct the workflow of others i.e. oversees staffing assignments on the daily surgery schedule.
  • Performs annual evaluations for department personnel.
  • Accepts new responsibilities and challenges with a positive attitude.
  • Evaluates our patients progress toward attaining discharge outcomes and works with other perioperative leaders to answer questions and guide care when needed.
  • Promotes and supports a collaborative team approach with provider care; communicates effectively with the Perioperative team to include: OR Anesthesia departments of Day Surgery and Sterile processing. Communication is the key to our success and supports this belief on a daily basis.
  • Supports and writes policies & procedures incorporating the philosophies and objectives of the hospital.
  • Reviews and responds to the incident reports or concerns brought forward. Collaborates with the PeriOperative Director when needed to help solve any problems that arise.
  • Collaborates daily with Clinical Care Coordinator and Anesthesia to effectively add on cases and assures the needs of our patients are being met along with our surgeons.
  • Monitors case volumes quality of care and performance of staff to identify areas for improvement.
  • Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish annual and daily goals.
  • Oversees monthly staff meetings. Organizes and evaluates educational opportunities.
  • Collaborates effectively with other departments and disciplines as appropriate.
  • Participates in quality and infection control reviews and PI projects. i.e. adverse events policy changes based upon new guidelines; Participates in Annual Surveys i.e. DNV
  • Uses problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
  • Maintains required competencies and completes all required healthstreams.
  • Pursues professional growth and participates in professional organizations.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy/confidentiality of all appropriate information.

  • Able to work in a team environment while maintaining a highly professional and productive work ethic.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner.

Education and Training:

Minimum of an Associates degree from an accredited school of Nursing required; BSN preferred.

Licensures/ Certifications:

Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Washington. American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification card on hire. ACLS & PALS required within 6 months of hire.

Experience:

Previous experience in Peri Operating Area is required. Supervisor experience preferred.
