Shift: Day shift

Primary Function/General Purpose of Position

The Coordinator of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Site will provide a safe and efficient environment for optimal recovery of all participants in a Roper St. Francis Cardiac Rehab satellite center. Duties include exercise prescription coordination of all educational efforts EKG and vital sign monitoring physician correspondence and interaction with Medical Director and referring physicians.

Essential Job Functions

  • Coordinates daily operation of satellite site: Contacts prospective patients and facilitates program entry. Evaluates all new patients in Phase 2 or Phase 4. Corresponds with physicians by completing initial discharge and update notes. Reports any significant financial or operational changes to manager. Orders supplies as needed

  • Assists RN with EKG heart rates blood pressures and blood glucose for Phase 2 Cardiac Rehabilitation patients. Connects and disconnects EKG telemetry. Takes blood pressures at rest and during exercise. Checks heart rates when patient is not able. Checks blood glucose according to policy.

  • Acts as Exercise Specialist to provide a safe and beneficial exercise environment for all patients. Evaluates exercise level of all new patients or participants and develops workout with Medical Director. Modifies workouts according to signs symptoms and patient review. Demonstrates appropriate use of exercise equipment. Leads warm up exercise

  • Coordinates patient review and communicates as needed with Medical Director. Prepares and directs Phase 2 patient review every three or four weeks. Contacts Medical Director with any patient care issues. Updates patient workouts or care according to Medical Director

  • Maintains professional abilities. Attends staff meeting every four weeks. Attends patient review every two weeks. Attends yearly S. C. Cardiac Rehab meeting. Maintain needed continuing education credits. Refers to professional literature when needed. Successfully completes unit credentialing each year. Makes presentations to community as requested.

Licensing/Certification

  • Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Education

  • BS Physical Education Exercise Science or related discipline (required)

  • Masters degree (preferred)

  • Work experience with Cardiac Rehabilitation (preferred)

XDemonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his or her age specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Intermittent sitting. Frequently standing walking exercising moving stooping bending. May require lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs for moving equipment or assisting patients. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant talking or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Possible exposure to blood body fluids or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Primary work environment is a climate controlled Cardiac Rehab facility. Secondary work environments include community health fairs physician offices and Roper Cardiac Rehab. May require irregular hours. Ability to read and comprehend. Travel may be required.

  • Ability to handle multiple patient questions and concerns.

  • EKG recognition.

  • Immediate recognition of untoward exercise response.

  • Public relations skills valuable.
