Special Information:

The mission of the Fisheries Division of Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks is to preserve maintain and enhance all aquatic species and their ecosystems to meet the publics interest in recreational opportunities and stewardship of aquatic wildlife. The Fisheries Division accomplishes this mission by implementing policies and programs that emphasize the management of wild fish populations and the protection and restoration of their habitats; by operating an efficient hatchery system to stock lakes and reservoirs where natural reproduction is limited or lacking; by monitoring and regulating angler harvest to maintain balanced ecosystems; by providing and maintaining adequate public access to fisheries; and by providing educational programs for the public.

Job Duties:

Physical and Environmental Demands:

Incumbent is often required to work long hours in an office environment under the pressure of multiple deadlines. Some travel often for multiple days and extended hours is required. Incumbent is required to attend and conduct public meetings sometimes with difficult audiences and under emotionally charged situations. May occasionally be required to observe and participate in strenuous field activities to review and evaluate projects. Some air travel (commercial or department small aircraft) may be required.

Incumbent frequently works independently but there is routine consultation with the Division Administrator concerning work decisions.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):

The knowledge skills and abilities of this position are normally attained through combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor of Science Degree in fisheries biology zoology or related field and at least 5 years of experience in fisheries management or equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered on a casebycase in management practices leadership skills facilitation project management conflict resolution and negotiation processes is combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
