REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Residence Life & Student Orientation

DEPARTMENT: Student Housing and Residence Life

EXEMPT:VICE PRESIDENT: Vice President of Student Services

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

Hinds Community College is seeking enthusiastic dependable and serviceminded student leaders to serve as orientation leaders. In this role students will represent the college by welcoming new students and their families providing informative campus tours and supporting key orientation events designed to help students transition smoothly into college life. This position is ideal for students who are passionate about Hinds enjoy public speaking and want to make a positive impact on the next generation of students.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Friendly reliable and teamoriented with a strong desire to help others
  • Willingness to speak in front of groups and lead tours with energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow directions from supervisors
  • Available for training and orientation dates (some evening/weekend availability required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous leadership experience (e.g. student government clubs housing staff etc.)
  • Knowledge of campus resources student services and student life opportunities

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Must be a Hinds Community College student in good academic standing

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain knowledge of diversityrelated issues legislation and best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead engaging informative campus tours for prospective students families and groups
  • Welcome and assist new students during New Student Orientation and registration events
  • Provide peertopeer guidance by sharing personal student experiences and campus insights
  • Assist with checkin material distribution and event coordination for orientation sessions
  • Represent Hinds Community College with professionalism and school pride
  • Collaborate with Admissions Housing Financial Aid and other departments to support new students
  • Promote student involvement college resources and success strategies
  • Serve as a positive role model demonstrating college values and expectations

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and the employee is occasionally required to perform job responsibilities in the outdoors and off site.
