SECRETARY TRANSPORTATION
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs intermediate clerical work; prepares and maintains related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Coordinator of Transportation. This is a nonexempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally up to 10 pounds of force frequently and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires stooping reaching standing pushing pulling lifting and fingering; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception preparing and analyzing written or computer data visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts operation of machines determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Assisting the Coordinator of Transportation with general office assistance tasks. The Transportation Secretary also
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
General knowledge of standard office practices procedures and equipment; some knowledge of school system routine and procedures; some knowledge of bookkeeping terminology methods and procedure; general knowledge of business English spelling and arithmetic; general knowledge of personnel procedures and financial record keeping; ability to maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to meet the public effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some office experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of or ability to acquire an appropriate commercial drivers license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must pass physical examination as prescribed by the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Must maintain a satisfactory driving record from the Division of Motor Vehicles that meets state requirements and indicates positive driving points.
