Position Summary
The Honors Burch Field Research Seminar in Vienna and the Balkans employs recent graduates to serve as mentors for the students on the program. The mentors support the faculty with the academic portion of the program support the students with their local knowledge of the location and language and serve an additional risk management role in cases of emergencies on the ground. They also assist the students in their cultural immersion activities to help them learn more about the countries they are visiting in the short program.
Required Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Mentors must be willing to mentor current students connect students with other recent graduates in the area and be compassionate and communicative with the students and the program managers in Chapel Hill regarding any student issues and concerns. Student should have experience with BCS language and culture to support this program in addition to a customer service orientation in supporting students along an unfamiliar journey through unfamiliar places. They should be open and willing to address all issues in a confidential and compassionate manner and help set expectations for appropriate behavior locally. They should be highly organized and an effective communicator. Excellent communication skills; international experience; willingness to travel and lead student travelers with limited experience; experience in the target country.
Preferred Qualifications Competencies And Experience
Fluency in BCS and prior experience traveling widely in the Balkans. Student support experience desired. Teaching experience welcome.
