Job Description

THE POSITION

Washington County Community Corrections serves an important role in keeping our community safe. This department works to prevent the recurrence of crime among adult justiceinvolved individuals (JIIs) by supervising them and connecting them with the resources they need to change problem behavior. Community Corrections supervises approximately 3000 JIIs using a range of evidencebased strategies while working in partnership with the Courts law enforcement and the state Board of Parole and PostPrison Supervision. The Community Corrections Center is a minimumsecurity adult residential corrections facility that operates twentyfour hours a day seven days a week.

The Community Corrections Center Supervisor has broad supervisory responsibilities over center staff and manages the daytoday operations safety and security of the center during their assigned shift. This role provides direct supervision to Community Corrections Specialists and volunteers and delivers technical and functional direction to other assigned staff.

Duties of this position include:

  • Supervising and evaluating the work of staff in maintaining security and managing cases of residents at the Community Corrections Center.
  • Providing and coordinating staff trainings and development programs in security and resident supervision procedures.
  • Advising staff on Center rules policies and operating procedures.
  • Evaluating employee performance and prepares performance evaluations.
  • Coaching and counseling employees to correct deficiencies and recommend and administer progressive discipline to correct performance and conduct issues.
  • Maintaining order and security of the Center responds to complaints settles disputes and resolves grievances and conflicts involving residents of the center
  • Providing coaching to residents using problem solving techniques; assists residents dealing with emergency family and personal issues.

Our ideal candidate will have:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and theories of human behavior individual differences in ability and personality learning and motivation; and assessment of behavioral disorders
  • Policies and procedures related to public safety and security
  • The criminal justice system including the operations of a minimum security residential facility and probation operations
  • Principles and procedures of supervision motivation training and evaluation of staff performance
Skills to:
  • Develop motivate and supervise personnel as they work
  • Plan organize and coordinate work unit activities
  • Monitor and assess performance of individuals and the work unit and make improvements or take corrective action
  • Speak to others in a manner that effectively conveys information
  • Actively listen giving full attention to what other people are saying and asking questions as appropriate
Ability to:
  • Maintain accurate and complete records and reports
  • Communicate orally and in writing so that others will understand
  • Read and understand written information reports and ideas
  • Negotiate with others to settle disputes and defuse conflicts
  • Supervise train and evaluate staff
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public coworkers and/or vendors
