Job Description

Assistant Dean of Students
Hendrix College is seeking a fulltime 12month administrative staff to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students the Assistant Dean of Students will support the daytoday operations of the Student Affairs area and take lead in developing initiatives to enhance student engagement satisfaction and retention. The Assistant Dean will serve as a member of the Student Affairs Leadership team and partner with the Directors of Counseling Services Student Activities Residence Life and Public Safety as well as Judicial Affairs and the Campus Chaplain to support the student experience and to make needed resources available for Hendrix students. In addition this individual will work collaboratively with the associate provosts to ensure that an impactful student experience is delivered.
Primary responsibilities will include:
  • Coordination of student engagement activities across the student and academic affairs divisions.
  • Collaborates with the alumni and advancement area to serve as a point of contact for parents and families and assist in the development of and ongoing communication to parents and families.
  • Develops and oversees a divisional communication strategy.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Public Safety CoLeads the Emergency Response Team.
  • Provides development oversight and coordination of student affairs policies and practices.
  • Assists staff in the development and assessment of program outcomes.
  • Guides the development of end of semester and department annual reports.
  • Develops the agenda and facilitates the Student Affairs biweekly staff meeting.
  • Serves as a member of the administrative oncall rotation for residential incidents as needed.
  • Leads plans and attends trainings retreats and planning sessions as needed.
  • Attends evening and weekend events as necessary.
Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum 58 years of student affairs leadership experience
  • Bachelors degree required Masters degree preferred
  • Strong supervisory and mentorship experience
  • Experienced problem solving and conflict resolution as well as excellent personal judgment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and experiences.
Preferred:
  • Experience with crisis management in a higher education environment.
  • Experience managing conflict among individual stakeholders.
  • Balance challenge and support for students to manage compliance with current policies and yield productive outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience producing effective marketing and communication strategies.
