Description


The position of Legislative Liaisonwill reside in the Office of the Mayorand report directly to the Mayors Chief of Staff. This position will advance the Mayors policy agenda be an innovative problemsolver and manage the legislative process for the Mayors Office coordinating across all city departments.

Duties include but are not limited to

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working with the City Attorneys Office to draft legislation
  • Reviewing and providing recommendations on ordinance and resolution requests for the Mayors Office
  • Tracking local state and federal legislation
  • Writing summaries of local state and federal legislation
  • Crafting advocacy strategies for local state and federal legislation
  • Writing policy memorandum and research reports on local state and federal legislation
  • Speaking at Richmond City Council meetings on behalf of the Mayors Administration
  • Participating in the development of citywide policies and procedures
  • Monitoring city departmental actions for compliance with City code
  • Establishing and meeting with key stakeholder groups to inform policy decisionmaking including members of the Richmond City Council
  • Drafts talking points remarks and legislative correspondence
  • Project management (as assigned)

Qualifications Special Certifications and Licenses

Knowledge Skills and Ability:

  • Knowledge of local state and federal codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of the local state and federal policymaking process
  • Strong project management skills
  • Proficiency with standard business office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Excellent research skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain on track with multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in public policy public administration history legal studies or related field
  • At least three years of related work experience
