Job Description

New Life Center is seeking a Thrift Store Attendant for Hopes Closet who is passionate about working in retail services while working toward New Life Centers mission of helping to eliminate domestic and sexual violence through support services education and expertise. Owned and operated by New Life Center Hopes Closet operates for two primary purposes. First survivors of sexual assault domestic violence and human trafficking and their children who are being served by one of New Life Centers programs have access to free clothing household items and furniture. Second all of Hopes Closet retail sales to the general public directly support New Life Centers programs.

The Hopes Closet Thrift Store Attendant is responsible for providing high quality customer and retail services while upholding the mission vision and values of New Life Center. This position is responsible for assisting with organizing sorting store front arrangement and upkeep and pricing donations to the Hopes Closet donation center. The Thrift Store Attendant also greets customers answers questions and assists with customer check outs as needed.

Schedule: Tuesday Friday 10am 4pm and Saturday 10a 3p

What You Will Do:

  • Help customers with purchases and answer questions about merchandise or store procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Assist donors with donation drop offs and processing donations in an efficient manner.
  • Be a passionate advocate for New Life Centers mission vision and core values of compassion resilience equity and community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Greet each customer in a friendly helpful manner.
  2. Always assist customers with purchases and answer questions about merchandise or store procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
  3. Respond to phone calls with attention to highquality customer service.
  4. Assist with donation pick up arrangements when needed.
  5. Be observant in all areas of the store to deter theft.
  6. Help maintain the appearance of the store and ensure that merchandise is easily accessible.
  7. Provide relief to other staff as needed for breaks.
  8. Maintain accurate records as needed.

Cashier Duties:

  1. Using the assigned cashier code operate the cash register and accurately complete all related paperwork.
  2. Complete daily register reports at close of business.
  3. Promptly report any variances/discrepancies to the Store Enterprise Manager.
  4. Complete each instore transaction in a professional manner.
  5. Keep the register area clean and neat.

Donation Center Duties:

  1. Aid donors and ensure that each donor receives a donation receipt.
  2. Promptly and efficiently process donations by sorting pricing sizing and organizing donations.
  3. Maintain a friendly and positive attitude toward customers and donors.
  4. Ensure that the donation room and outside donation area is organized neat orderly clean and safe.
  5. Make sure that the dumpster area is swept daily.
  6. Assist with merchandising items from the donation room to the sales floor when needed.

Agency Management:

  1. Participate as an active team member of the Hopes Closet Team.
  2. Share in the responsibility for cleanliness and appearance of entire store and exterior areas.
  3. Communicate emergencies customer concerns and organizational needs to the Store Enterprise Manager or appropriate member of the leadership team.
  4. Work cooperatively with a diverse group of staff and new Life Center residents who have exposure to trauma.
  5. Knowledge of basic mathematics including addition subtraction division and multiplication.

Other:

  1. Help in building a culture of cooperation and collaboration among Hopes Closet staff interns and volunteers.
  2. Support and adhere to all policies regarding participant and program confidentiality.
  3. Actively contribute to New Life Centers trauma informed philosophy.
  4. Participate in scheduled agencywide meetings and events as assigned.
  5. Perform other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Valid Arizona drivers license and insurance and access to reliable transportation.
  3. Currently possess or ability to successfully obtain Level 1 fingerprint clearance. **
  4. Negative TB test required. **

**If necessary New Life Center will complete these areas of qualification during the onboarding process.

Preferred:

  1. One or more years of experience in retail/sales environment.
  2. One or more years of thrift store experience within a human services agency.
  3. Bilingual English/Spanish.
