Job Description

Position: Level 1 Preschool Paraprofessional

Location: Duncan Lake Early Childhood Center

Reports To: Building Principal

Work Year: 183 Days (27.5 Hours per week)

Salary: $15.78 per hour

Start Date: School Year

Position Summary

Contributes to a safe and nurturing environment for children that encourages their social emotional physical and intellectual development. Maintain positive relationships with families children coworkers and community partners. Ensure safety and supervision of children at all times by meeting all demands of the position. Work under the direction of a lead classroom teacher and/or the building principal.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Participate in a team teaching model including time dedicated for the teaching team to plan implement curriculum in all learning environments assess children and support parent/teacher communication
  • Work closely with students classroom teachers support staff volunteers Preschool Coordinator DLECC staff and Principal
  • Participate in schoolwide events
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community
  • Create a safe and nurturing classroom environment with strong classroom management skills
  • Observe and document student performance
  • Assist with personal needs such as handwashing feeding and bathroom assistance
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal

Employment Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: This position requires a high school diploma. An associates degree is desired but not required.
  • EXPERIENCE: Experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting is desirable.

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing reading writing and mathematics
  • Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students school administrators and staff
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit use hands to finger handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand walk reach with hands and arms and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of stored files. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus especially due to concentration when reading and working on a computer screen.
