POSITION SUMMARY
The Deputy Superintendent reports directly to the Superintendent of Schools. S/he oversees the operation of an assigned set of schools and in collaboration with the other Deputy Superintendent of Schools will conduct the following activities:
- Review and revise the District Improvement Plan annually to accord with changing needs.
- Enforce implementation and maintain documentation of the many action items in the Action Plan of the District Improvement Plan.
- Coordinate the efforts of central office and school personnel toward achieving the Lynn Public Schools District Improvement Plan.
- Evaluate the performance of all assigned administrators.
- Monitor instruction in assigned schools to ensure implementation of curricula and programs established to address the state frameworks.
- Oversee all departments providing school support services.
- Assist schools in implementing school turnaround strategies.
- Develop plans/procedures and conduct activities to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations with particular attention to civil rights special education and bilingual education as well as to the Massachusetts Education Reform Act and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Among these many plans/procedures and activities are the following:

- District Notification to Parents on Teacher Qualifications
- District and School Responsibilities:School Improvement Corrective Action Restructuring Curriculum and Instruction Alignment (with the state Curriculum Frameworks in English Language Arts Mathematics Science STEM History and Social Science Health the Arts and Foreign Languages).

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Massachusetts Certified as a Superintendent.
- Doctorate strongly preferred.
- Five years of successful teaching experience in urban schools.
- Five years of successful administrative experience in urban schools.
- Urban experience as a principal or as a Central Office Administrator required.
- Experience in the Elementatrylevel required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Leadership: Collaborate with the Superintendent to develop and implement strategic initiatives that address the unique needs of our urban student population focusing on equity diversity and inclusion. This is an extension of the Strategic Plan to begin in the school yearthrough.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Foster positive relationships with various stakeholders and community partners including community leaders parents and advocacy groups to ensure open communication and a shared commitment to student success.
- Policy Development: Work closely with the Superintendent to analyze and develop policies that promote an inclusive and supportive educational environment aligning with the districts goals and addressing the specific challenges of a large urban setting.
- Administrative Procedures: Coordinate and support the development of administrative procedures in manuals and handbooks that provide clarity to LPS policy in all departments.
- Resource Management: Advise on the efficient allocation of resources including budgetary planning to support educational programs and services that meet the diverse needs of our students.
- Community Outreach: Lead initiatives to engage the community in supporting educational objectives building partnerships that enhance opportunities for students and addressing community concerns.
- Equity and Inclusion: Champion initiatives that promote equity and inclusion ensuring that district policies and practices actively support the success of all students especially those with high needs.
- Crisis Management: Collaborate with the Superintendent to develop and implement crisis response plans ensuring the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
- Data Analysis: Collaborate with theDAAT (Data Assessment & Accountability Team)department to use data to assess the effectiveness of educational programs identify areas for improvement and advise the Superintendent to make informed decisions that positively impact student outcomes.
- Communication: Facilitate communication between the Superintendent and other stakeholders including executive leadership unions administrators and external partners.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- This is a 12month position.
- The nature of this position requires hours beyond the regular school day. The person filling this position will prioritize completing the necessary tasks and set hours accordingly.
