Job Description

Job Title: Sr. Specialist Mechanical Engineer Mass Properties

Job Code: 23713

Job Location:Greenville TX (100% Onsite)

Schedule: 9/80 (every other Friday off)

Job Description:

L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering team as a Mass Properties Engineer. Mass Properties Engineers perform mass properties analyses weight control and reporting for major aircraft modifications using computer aided design (CAD) tools and Microsoft Excel. You will also support the development of engineering estimates for bids and provide input to a regular labor forecast for your team. Mass Properties Engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft modifications on various aircraft platforms.

Essential Functions:

  • Calculate and estimate component weights moment arms and mass moment of inertia from engineering drawings and CAD models
  • Calculate overall aircraft weight and balance as a result of a collection of modifications
  • Develop aircraft mass distributions in support of loads development
  • Manage weight control plans including allocation and tracking of target weights
  • Prepare aircraft weight charts and support aircraft inventories for weighings
  • Document weight analysis and actual aircraft weighings in engineering reports
  • Lead and coordinate tasks for Mass Properties on several contracts
  • Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers
  • Estimate the scope and labor hours for Mass Properties efforts on new pursuits
  • Update monthly labor forecasts

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline Mathematics or Physics
  • Minimum of 8 years of fixedwing aircraft weight and balance analysis
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint
  • Must be able to travel to and from flight line and work in aircraft hangar environments (some positions will require the ability to board/exit aircraft)
  • Willingness to travel
  • Eligible for DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Understanding of FAA and military weight and balance reporting requirements and methods
  • Advanced skill in managing large data sets in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) software
  • Experience with aircraft weighing
  • Active Secret Clearance
