POSITION: Certificated Elementary Level MTSS MultiTiered Student Success Specialist 1.0 FTE
LOCATION: Mt. Stuart Elementary School
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
Purpose
Support the development and implementation of MTSS
Responsibilities
- Skillfully assess and diagnose student reading and math strengths and deficits in order to set academic goals and inform instruction
- Skillfully provide tailored interventions to individuals or groups as needed in math and ELA
- Assist the school and district in the development and implementation of strong MTSS structures for both academics and behaviors
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and building teams to determine which students are most atrisk and not meeting state academic achievement standards
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and building teams to determine what intervention programs for both math and ELA will best meet students needs
- Make decisions as appropriate to determine level of frequency and duration of math and ELA interventions
- Provide the intervention as necessary using a variety of research based instructional strategies and methods to best support the needs of the student receiving intervention
- Utilize progress monitoring tools in both math and ELA to record student growth and adjust instructional program as needed
- Manage (analyze organize input and report) data to archive effectiveness of the intervention program and the resulting student achievement
- Provide instructional programs that center on high expectation for student achievement
- Lead as appropriate Professional Learning Communities
- Establishes data cycles in collaboration with building administrators and helps teams establish groups and instructional strategies for each group
- Provide resources to classroom teachers to improve instruction and implementation of MTSS
- Design and implement job embedded professional learning (modeling facilitating peer observation and coaching) for individuals and teams around assessment practices MTSS strategies tiered instruction and use of data
- Provide nonevaluative feedback as educators master strategies
- Collaborate in regular district wide student success team meetings
- Work closely with building and district leadership to ensure building and district goals are being met and opportunities for staff professional learning are present leading professional learning as appropriate.
- Facilitating adult learning
- Directing the work of paraeducators
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding knowledge of the following areas:
- The three levels of instruction and intervention in an MTSS model
- Diagnostic tools and techniques for both math and ELA
- Standardsbased instruction and familiarity with Washington State Learning Standards and School board policies and procedures
- The Danielson instructional framework
- English language development
- SEL frameworks and standards
- Current trends and practices in education Instructional theory and its application
- Awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others
- Demonstrated skills and ability in the following areas:
- Effectively assessing diagnosing and progress monitoring reading and math skills and effectively implementing intervention strategies for student achievement
- Working independently taking initiative and accepting the responsibility of providing effective leadership in a fast paced environment
- Leading professional learning sessions
- Providing an enthusiastic caring and positive learning climate that promotes high expectations appropriate behavior and successful learning
- Understanding and utilizing restorative practices PBIS and trauma informed strategies and practices
- Being organized yet flexible in managing and coordinating programs
- Operating a variety of educational technologies
- Providing instructional leadership and job embedded professional learning
- Working collaboratively with District staff and promoting teamwork with coworkers
- Relating effectively with parents staff students and the public in a multicultural and multiracial community
- Establishing and nurturing an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of staff students and patrons of the District.

Educational/Vocational Preparation Occupational Certificates/Licenses
- Washington State teaching certificate appropriate to assignment. EndorsementsSpecial certification and/or license required for specific assignment.
- Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background check
Preferred Education and Experience
- Second language or language acquisition background or abilities preferred
- Student cultural and economic diversity experience preferred
