Job Description

TITLE:Student Support Interventionist

POSTION TYPE:PARA

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

1. High School Diploma HiSET or G.E.D.

2. Two years of experience working with K12 age students with problem solving and conflict resolution or in a communitybased organization.

Desired:

1. Bachelors degree in education social work or related field.

2. Fluent in a second language.

3. Experience in social work or working with At Risk youth.

Skills Knowledge and Abilities:

1. Ability to work flexible hours and additional hours as needed.

2. Ability to make decisions in a fastpaced environment.

3. Ability to apply District code of conduct and attendance policies to daily situations.

4. Effective oral and written communication skills.

5. Basic computer and keyboarding skills.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Utilizes building data (such as attendance SEL tardy behavior on track for graduation) to identify students forsupport. Intervenes using such strategies as restorative practices home visits participation in parent conferencesand referral to afterschool tutoring programs and community services. The essential functions as shown belowrepresent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs ofthe building.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Utilize building data to develop proactive strategies to work with at risk students provide academic attendance and behavioral supports for students track students with attendance and academic concerns
  2. Participate as a building intervention team member to implement the RTI or MTSS process.
  3. Conduct restorative circles with identified students to restore relationships with teachers and other students.
  4. Provide small group support and small group instruction as need.
  5. Assist in afterschool tutoring program to ensure attendance of identified students.
  6. Supervise any designated area directed by administrators such as parking lots building entrances locker
  7. rooms halls stairways restrooms and evening activities.
  8. Responds to Level II building discipline referrals and carries out behavioral interventions per building and
  9. district procedures.
  10. Clarify student expectations and encourage students to take responsibility for their actions.
  11. Maintain communications with administration school resource officers and other support staff.
  12. Provide supervision at selected evening school activities.
  13. Respond to calls from homes and businesses in close proximity to the school regarding student behavior.
  14. Make home visits with the school social worker building administrator or school nurse.
  15. Provide court testimony in cases involving student victims or crimes.
  16. Respond to student reports of theft locker problems car vandalism or conflicts.
  17. Provide support and restraint (if necessary) to prevent a student from harming themselves or others or to
  18. prevent a breach of discipline.
  19. Direct movement of students and staff in emergency situations.
  20. Provide frequent checks and surveillance of faculty and student.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public students and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Constant standing and walking; Occasional sitting bending stooping reaching pushing pulling climbing stairs driving lifting (50lbs) carrying (25 feet)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mostly inside occasional outsie extremes of temperature and humidity
