Job Description

School Year: SPECIAL EDUCATION English/Language Arts TEACHER (Freshman Academy)
Reports to:Building Principal J.J. Smith
Supervises:Assigned Paraprofessionals Students
Evaluation:Annually by Site Principal (TLE)
Qualifications: Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate in Assigned Subject(s); K12 Special Education Mild to Moderate
Job Goal:Provide exceptional instruction to assigned students while working within the districts established policies and procedures.
Classification:Exempt
Contract:180 days/7 hours daily
Salary: based on education and years of service/with an additional 10% stipend (figured off of base salary) will also be applied
Personal Qualifications:
  • Must possess knowledge in all responsibility law and local policy areas.
  • Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive an email with attachments produce memos navigate the internet as required by position responsibilities accurately complete and submit forms or reports as required etc.
  • Must be able toread and comprehend written instructions policies and procedures.
  • Must be attentive to details a selfstarter able to work effectively without constant or direct supervision and must be able to multitask.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Must have good communication and organizational skills.
GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES( But Not Limited To )
Teach academic and functional skills to educationally and physically disabled students.
Modify the general education curriculum for specialneeds students using various instructional techniques and technologies.
Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by the SDE Board policies and administrative regulations.
Assess students accomplishments regularly by testing students recording grades and providing progress reports to parents and appropriate professionals as directed by the district.
Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative regulations and Board policy.
Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline per Board policies the student handbook and administrative regulations.
Take reasonable caution to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
Maintain accurate complete records as required by law district policy and administrative regulations.
If needed assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional material.
Be responsible for supervising the proper usage of teaching supplies classroom equipment and other instructional materials.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings required professional development and/or any other meetings required by campus or district administration.
Maintain acceptable attendance and punctuality per district policy and campus expectations.
Sponsor and accept responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned or approved by the campus or district administration.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues students and parents. Strictly follow the Code of Ethics for OklahomaEducators.
Cooperate with other staff members in planning and implementing instructional goals objectives and methods.
Work to maintain and improve professional competence.
Accept and respond appropriately to supervision.
Provide lesson plans as expected by campus administration.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Confer with parents administrators testing specialists social workers and professionals to develop individual educational plans to promote students educational physical and social development.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS Physical Requirements:
To accomplish this job an individual must perform with or without reasonable accommodation each essential function satisfactorily.
Intelligence:
Requires the ability to read and follow various instructions on thedistrict state and federal websites anda hardcopy.
Language Ability:
Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence.
Requires the ability to prepare lessons reports etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all grammar rules.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information explain procedures to give oral and written instructions.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise voice control and confidence.
Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Knowledge and application of Sand Springs Public Schools District and departmental policies and procedures

Knowledge and application of appropriate teaching strategies and methods

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with coworkers vendors students parents the general public and others having business with the school district

Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications and equipment

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Specialized teaching assignments may require additional training and/or certification.

Must be able to pass an initial fingerprint and background clearance check and maintain a valid fingerprint clearance card when in the classroom.

May be required to lift and carry heavy bulky supplies and materials weighing up to 20 pounds.

May be required to assist and lift students to 100 pounds.

May be required to work outside regular working hours.

May be required to travel to perform work functions.
