Job Description

1) Job Purpose

The MCOE has been established as a worldclass manufacturing excellence facility with the primary objective of leading excellence initiatives to support all businesses of Hindalco addressing both current and future needs.

The Department ofWorld Class Manufacturing (WCM) is an importantdepartmentwithin the Manufacturing Centre of Excellence (MCOE) is responsible for driving operational excellence at Hindalco. It aims to enhance productivity reduce costs improve safety and sustain highquality standards by embedding best practices Lean Six Sigma methodologies and process optimization techniques across the organization. It ensures sustenance and continuous improvement of the Corporate Integrated Management System (IMS) certification for ISOand 45001 across all Hindalco units as well as corporate functions.

The role ofLead HMF Opex works under the supervision of the Head WCM. The core purpose fo this role is:

  • Leading the maintenance and enhancement of integrated management systems to ensure sustained corporate ISO certifications.
  • Supporting operational units in achieving excellence through systematic process improvements.
  • Collaborating with Unit WCM/IMS SPOCs & functional teams to implement best practices and drive performance improvements.
  • Coordinating with other COE functional leads corporate to align operational standards with organizational strategy.
  • Providing technical expertise and guidance in WCM methodologies across manufacturing units.
  • Facilitating the execution of standardization initiatives of operational processes and systems across smelters refineries power plants downstream operations copper facilities and mines.
  • Partner with external practitioners to bring in industry insights and enhance the organizations capabilities in worldclass manufacturing and integrated management systems.

Key Result Areas/Accountabilities

Supporting Actions

WCM Integration & Framework Development

  • Enhance the business value proposition of WCM and IMS through the adoption of automation and digital tools.
  • Foster a culture of manufacturing excellence by promoting internal customer focus through SLAs and customer satisfaction measurements.
  • Engage with WCM SPOCs unit heads and cluster heads through regular dialogue collaborating with functions to ensure that WCM framework deployment is aligned with business needs.
  • Develop deployment structures roadmaps and performance monitoring matrices.
  • Collaborate with unit WCM cells to launch structures provide training conduct selfassessments and internal baseline studies identify gaps and create improvement plans.
  • Standardize processes across Hindalcos operations including Upstream Downstream and Power Plants through SOPs and SWIs.
  • Engage assigned plants to build a worldclass operational and performance culture aligned with the objectives of Hindalcos operational excellence initiatives.
  • Maintain regular engagement with senior leadership by providing progress updates sharing best practices and organizing training programs.
  • Guide units in integrating excellence principles into metrics and reviews managing the WCM team by supporting excellence deployment plans identifying relevant projects and periodically reviewing progress.
  • Support a continuous improvement mindset in manufacturing units by encouraging kaizen and ongoing improvement projects.
  • Assist units to set up checkpoints that align with the governance framework to support operational excellence initiatives.
  • Work closely with unit WCM teams to drive manufacturing excellence initiatives ultimately achieving bestinclass business processes and systems.

IMS Implementation & Certification

  • Deploy the Integrated Management System (IMS) through process documentation and creation/modification of SOPs and SWIs to enhance overall functional processes.
  • Oversee the deployment of internal audit programs for multisite certification across 17 corporate functions and manufacturing units covering around 150 functional areas.
  • Coordinate regularly with 35 IMS SPOCs from corporate functions and manufacturing units for process documentation and updates nonconformity resolution and intraunit activities.
  • Collaborate with 500 internal auditors to support awareness building plan internal audits and finalize audit reports.
  • Prepare and share required documents regularly and coordinate with external agencies to finalize audit plans.

Process Improvement & Capability Building

  • Plan and develop Continuous Improvement (CI) skills focused on identifying and reducing nonvalueadded (NVA) activities conducting root cause analysis and implementing process capability improvement programs to reduce process variability at manufacturing units.
  • Collaborate with unit heads functional heads and unit WCM cells to identify NVA areas and the need for process variability reduction.
  • Work closely with unit heads functional heads WCM cells and relevant personnel to identify potential improvement projects.
  • Monitor project progress and evaluate the results achieved.

Process Standardization and Governance

  • Simplify harmonize and standardize Hindalco Indias manufacturing processes across various dimensions.
  • Engage colleagues to assess the current status using diagnostic tools to identify gaps and outline actionable steps for the excellence journey.
  • Create a charter to help address gaps and align with overall functional plans.
  • Regularly monitor progress and implement exceptionbased interventions as necessary.
  • Support Units to implement a framework to guide and improve excellence initiatives across functions.

Futuristic Operational Excellence Development and Implementation

  • Assist in improving the operational excellence model by coordinating with units to gather feedback and help develop frameworks for longterm organizational changes.
  • Scan global best practices and processes for benchmarking purposes.
  • Organize brainstorming sessions with operational excellence practitioners.
  • Develop a futuristic model in consensus with the leadership team.
  • Conduct awareness sessions and training on the futuristic model for implementation at the units.
  • Perform selfassessments for gap analysis to identify areas for improvement.
  • Create a deployment plan and conduct periodic reviews to ensure effective implementation.

Technical Competencies :

Essential technical competencies

  • Knowledge of processes related to various functional verticals including Alumina Copper Aluminum Power and Mines.
  • Expertise in different operational excellence practices and the WCM framework serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Proficient in assessing operational excellence practices with certification as an assessor.
  • Knowledge and skills in ISO/IMS standards (ISO 9001:2015 ISO 14001 ISO 45001) and certification as a Lead Auditor in at least one of these standards.
  • Skilled as a Lead Auditor for ISO/IMS standards.
  • Experience in developing process documents and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Strong problemsolving abilities.
  • As an SME responsible for preparing and delivering training sessions on WCM operational excellence and the IMS system.

Desirable technical competencies

  • Knowledge of energy management information security and water management standards.
  • Understanding of the basics of digitization.
  • Planned maintenance audit system.
  • Expertise on Lean Six Sigma process capability selfmaintenance TPS and problemsolving tools.
