This is to ensure that members of the police are fully aware and accountable for the unique powers entrusted to them and the standards of professional behaviour they swear to uphold.

Post: Senior Intelligence Analyst

Location: Birmingham City Centre

Salary:to(Grade 8)

We are currently recruiting for the post of Senior Intelligence Analyst. TheSenior Analyst will direct manage and supervise Force Intelligences analytical function through the line management of higher analysts. The Senior Analyst is responsible for the delivery of analysis against WMPs vision strategies and priorities whilst meeting national intelligence and analytical standards. The function is omnicompetent in matters of analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Comanage a team of Higher Analysts.
  • Setting priorities for the analytical function across the intelligence department.
  • Delivery of comprehensive analytical products including problem profiles.
  • Develop innovative tactics for acquiring developing and evidencing intelligence to support both proactive and reactive investigations.
  • Interpret intelligence and provide a clear understanding and guidance to drive decision making processes operational activity and strategies.
  • Delivering analysis throughout WMP process and governance (e.g. TTCG STCG and LTCG).
  • Leading on the development and delivery of operational and strategic assessments.
  • Identifying risk threat vulnerabilities and opportunities in support of WMP strategies.
  • Offering specialist and technical guidance to the analytical function the intelligence academy and across the wider force in line with IPP the NIM and the College or Policing.
  • Maintaining professional and legislative standards through a QA process.
  • Driving innovation throughout the analytical portfolio. Identifying and promoting best practice.
  • Working to the direction of the Head of Analysis assess and improve analyst technical skills throughout the Force ensuring consistency of assessment measures in line with IPP.
  • Support the Intelligence Academy in the delivery and assurance of IPP to ensure the continuing professional development of intelligence staff through regular contact and communication to disseminate effective practice and deliver guidance.
  • Attend local regional and national forums as appropriate.
  • To take appropriate security precautions in respect of intelligence information.

Essential Criteria:

  • Graduate level in relevant subject or equivalent qualification and experience within a similar environment.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Demonstrable skills in the use of methodologies to identify analyse and understand threats within policing or other law enforcement agency.
  • Experience of critical and strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication skills in presenting analytical findings in verbal graphical and written forms.
  • Initiative and innovation while leading a team.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity discretion and confidentiality.
  • Able to develop and motivate a team and create strong engagement of individuals with their personal and team objectives and with Force values behaviours and strategic priorities.
  • Significant experience of successfully managing workloads and projects.
  • Skilled in setting team and individual performance objectives monitoring performance assessing progress identifying emerging risks issues and opportunities and taking corrective steps as required to ensure that the right results are achieved.
  • Able to develop trusting relationships with a variety of stakeholders to collaborate and ensure that their needs and concerns are fully understood and responded to in an appropriate way.
  • Skilled in using specialised software related to own area of work to extract analyse and report on data.


Desirable Criteria:

  • College of Policing Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Qualification (to complete within 12 months of appointment) and continued IPP compliance.

Vetting:Successful applicants will be required to pass both Management Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.

Medical:Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.

Posts location:Lloyd House (Monday to Friday) office hours.

Interviews:Interviews will consist of a CVF Level 2 Interview plus a technical assessment.

Probationary Policy:Under the Probation Policy if you are currently in your probation period during your probationary period you will not be permitted to apply for alternative police staff roles within the Force unless there are exceptional circumstances.
