Full time starting salary is normally in the range 32546 to 35116 with potential progression once in post to 39355

Grade: 6

Full Time Fixed Term contract up to May 2029

Background

Surgical site infections (SSIs) are a significant problem for the NHS due to increased treatment costs and resource use. The ROSSINI platform trial is designed to evaluate interventions for reducing surgical site infections taking type of surgery into account. There are also unanswered methodological questions with respect to how we should conduct economic analysis alongside platform trials. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Grade 6 Researcher to join our multidisciplinary team conducting health economic evaluations within the ROSSINI platform trial setting.

The post is available immediately and with the post duration spanning the programme end date of the end of 2029. The postholder will be based in the Health Economics Unit in the Department of Applied Health Sciences.

Role Summary

  • Collaborate with clinical trialists statisticians surgeons and health economists on the ROSSINI platform trial focused on reducing surgical site infections (SSIs).
  • Assess the costeffectiveness of interventions within the trial.
  • Explore methodological issues related to economic analysis in platform trials.

Main Duties

  • Extract relevant data from published economic evaluations and other economic literature. Such data is likely to include costs outcomes assumptions and other parameters
  • Analyse research data as directed
  • To attend relevant project meetings with colleagues
  • To estimate costs and conduct an economic evaluation (both model and trialbased)
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Carry out administrative tasks related directly to the delivery of the research
  • Present research outputs including drafting academic publications or parts thereof for example at seminars and as posters
  • To a limited degree to support the HEU teaching programme particularly in relation to the Masters programme in Health Economics and Health Policy/Econometrics
  • To support any other appropriate activities that will help to achieve the objectives of the Health Economics Unit

Person Specification

  • A Masters degree in Health Economics or equivalent
  • Practical experience of applying the relevant skills and techniques
  • Ability to analyse information and communicate effectively
  • Ability to access and organise resources successfully
