Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The role provides leadership through the oversight supervision development and monitoring of Shelter Program(s) manages the daytoday operations of client services and Social Services programming assisting clients through difficult times and promoting moving towards selfsufficiency.
Accountabilities:
Supervise and provide daytoday direction to the Intake Supervisor in accordance with established policies and procedures including Collective Agreement Employment Standards and payroll procedures.
- Schedules conducts and documents supervision using the PEAC format.
- Conducts probationary and annual performance reviews and evaluations.
- Chairs and minutes regular team meetings.
- Provide backup support to these positions and their functions as required.
Oversee the daytoday operation of the Hostel.
- Ensure clients receive proper Customer Service while relating to the Staff.
- Provide direct consultation referral and supportive case management to clients.
- Review all Incident Reports making any followup and put necessary notations on clients file as needed.
- Assist with monitoring the disciplinary/penalty assessments imposed on clients.
- Read daily the logbooks and make the necessary followup.
- Liaise with hospitals and other community service agencies to coordinate discharges to the shelter.
- Assist with staff recruitment selection and onboarding.
- Recommends disciplinary actions including termination in concert with the Director.
- Organize and assist with staff training in accordance with the policy.
- Manage time off lieu time and schedule requests (UltiPro).
- Participates in Labour Management meetings.
To assist the Director with the administration of the Shelter
- Compile all monthly Shelter statistics for submission to the Director.
- Assist the Director in ensuring the Shelter is in compliance and meeting the standards for the Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
- Attends committee conferences and agency meetings as directed by the Director.
- Schedules and chairs meetings prepares agendas takes and circulates minutes for the shelter as directed by the Director.
- Assist in the development and implementation of shelter Policies and Procedures.
- Assists with planning and facilitation of staff outings and events as requested.
- Conduct tours of building for groups or individuals as requested.
- On call duties.
- Assists with residents meetings.
To assist with the Director with the Finances of the Hostel
- Approve daily for biweekly payroll in UltiPro for the Intake Supervisors Intake Workers and Case Team.
- Assist with the preparation of yearly budgets for all funding bodies and funding applications as requested.
- Assist with the monitoring of financial expenditures as per annual budget projections.
To assist the Director to ensure that all Health and Safety requirements specific to the Hostel are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- To conduct information sessions (safety talks staff meetings).
- To assist with incident investigations.
- To assist with employee health and safety training.
- To assist make recommendations and/or correct substandard acts or conditions.
- To assist in commending employee health and safety performance.
- To perform employee safety observations.
- To ensure compliance with specific Hostel requirements within sections 25 & 26 of the OHSA.
- Ensures quarterly Health and Safety meetings are conducted and ensures that monthly building checks are conducted.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army.
- Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and inservice training.
- Engage in formal supervision and performance evaluations.
- Read and follow the policy and procedures manual the Employee Handbook and the Toronto Shelter Standards and understand that the Assistant Directors position will be required to adhere to all these guidelines in dealing with clients staff and the public.
- Become familiar with the job descriptions and task lists for each position.
- Make suggestions to the Management team that will improve efficiency working conditions and/or procedures.
- Represent the organization in a professional manner.
Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- This is a full time position based on 40 hours per week and requires on call responsibilities and flexibility for evenings and weekend shifts as needed.
- Working environment is in the shelter locations in generally agreeable conditions.

Education Qualifications and Certifications:
- Minimum 2 year Diploma in Human Services or equivalent
- Certificate in First Aid/CPR Crisis Intervention and Conflict Resolution
- Valid Ontario Class G Drivers License personal vehicle required and insurance current copy of drivers abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion is required.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Experience and Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum five years of significant workrelated experience including supervision coaching and mentoring of employees.
- Experience with extremely marginalized homeless people with mental health problems addictions concurrent disorders and familiarity to a wide variety of resources in the Greater Toronto area.
Skills and Capabilities:
- High level of comfort working within an extreme diverse and multicultural environment.
- Superior written skills and a high level of proficiency with the Internet and Microsoft Office 365.
- The responsibilities associated with this position demand a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army in its sole discretion (i.e. The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $66831.48 to $83539.35 with a maximum of $100247.22.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
