Job Description

We invite applications for the temporary position of:

  • 1.0 FTE District Early Literacy Specialist Teacher
  • Please note this is an internal secondment that will begin September 1 2025 and end June 30 2028.

As a member of the district curriculum and learning team and reporting to the Associate Superintendent the District Early Literacy Specialist Teacher will assist in instructional and curricular activities to enhance early literacy practices and related initiatives across the district. This includes:

  • Supporting implementation of the districts literacy framework and literacy learning initiatives;
  • Leading early literacy training activities and equipping primary teachers with knowledge and practices in effective assessment and instructional strategies supplemental teaching approaches and early intervention;
  • Facilitating professional learning for colleagues administrators and support staff in effective early literacy learning approaches and practices including workshops collaborative planning demonstration lessons and coteaching;
  • Advising district staff and school teams on the design and implementation of successful supplemental learning and early intervention models and strategies;
  • Communication and collaboration with district personnel regional networks parents and community partners;
  • Planning and coordination of district wide early literacy implementation structures and strategies;
  • Performing other related support and coordination duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of early literacy pedagogy and child development in addition to successful experience in early literacy interventions;
  • Specialized certification/education in early literacy intervention (i.e. Reading Recovery Teacher Certificate or equivalent);
  • Demonstrated expertise and successful experience in building primary teachers and support staffs capacity in literacy acquisition and supporting systems of collaborative support and interventions;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead develop and support school and district teams in effective early literacy programming and models;
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in studentcentred teaching and assessment approaches inclusive practices and cultural sensitivity;
  • Proven collaboration and curriculum implementation experience;
  • Ability and willingness to work at multiple schools/sites across the district.
