We are seeking reliable adaptable and confident individuals to support the delivery of the 4th International Indigenous Health and Wellbeing Conference in Adelaide this June. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high profile event that brings together a global audience committed to sharing knowledge for the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples and communities from around the world. It is a space for sharing innovative ideas and transformational research grounded in our ways of knowing being and doing.

About The Role

As a Session Chair and Conference Support Officer you will be responsible for both chairing and hosting the delivery of conference sessions. This includes formally introducing speakers managing timekeeping facilitating respectful audience engagement monitoring session flow and ensuring smooth transitions between presenters. You will also host sessions by assisting speakers overseeing room readiness coordinating with AV support and managing any logistical needs that arise during the session.

The role requires you to be well prepared punctual and proactive; reviewing session materials in advance arriving early to check setup and responding quickly to inroom changes. Whether chairing or hosting you will play a key part in delivering a professional and welcoming experience for delegates and presenters. While a briefing guide is provided you are encouraged to bring your own facilitation style that aligns with the goals of the conference and the values of cultural respect and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Chair or host sessions including room setup speaker introductions and session timekeeping
  • Review session programs speaker bios and presentation details in advance
  • Open sessions with an Acknowledgement of Country and follow the Chair briefing guide
  • Maintain session timing manage transitions and facilitate Q&A respectfully
  • Monitor session rooms and adjust to evolving needs or issues as required
  • Liaise with AV and conference staff to resolve technical or logistical matters
  • Respond promptly to ad hoc requests and shifting priorities
  • Represent Lowitja Institute professionally and contribute to the events overall success
  • Provide feedback or flag any session issues to the conference team at the end of each day

Whats Included

  • Paid casual engagement $45.57 per hour superannuation for a total of 15.5 hours across morning and afternoons shifts over three days
  • Accommodation at InterContinental Adelaide (Tue 17 and Wed 18 June)
  • Access to the evening events (optional)

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander candidates are strongly encouraged to apply!

Essential

  • Must be available and able to commit to all scheduled days and sessions times across the full three days
  • Understanding of and commitment to cultural safety in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander contexts
  • Interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and wellbeing
  • Confident public speaking skills and the ability to chair or monitor formal sessions professionally
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage respectfully with diverse presenters and audiences
  • Ability to follow direction manage time and respond calmly to unexpected issues
  • Punctual reliable and available for the three days of the conference

Highly Desirable

  • Experience chairing facilitating or hosting events sessions or community gatherings
  • Experience in event support customer service or conference logistics
  • Experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Familiarity with conference environments session flow or basic AV coordination
