About the Role

The Clinical Director provides specialist care and clinical leadership for staff at the BWCPM and is directly responsible for the BWCPM Medical workforce. The Clinical Director works collaboratively with the HIP Manager/s and the Pain Stream Manager to ensure the delivery of a high quality multidisciplinary statewide pain service. This is a senior medical position and carries with it the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership teaching and training as well as administrative requirements.

  • Deliver highquality evidencebased clinical care in line with best practices.
  • Advocate for an interdisciplinary approach to patient care ensuring integrated and holistic treatment strategies.
  • Support and promote a patientcentred approach to care and communication.
  • Professional supervision and leadership of all medical staff at BWCPM to ensure a high standard of medical care at all times including care provided on inpatient wards and theatre.
  • In collaboration with the Pain Stream Manager review medical and/or complex clinical incidents or complaints in accordance with SVHM policies. Implement systems to identify and manage risks and to deal with and learn from incidents and complaints.

Your Contribution

Minimum of five (5) years experience as a Pain Medicine Specialist

Commitment to and experience working in an interdisciplinary team

Excellent leadership skills to support motivate and encourage staff

Commitment to evidencebased practice research continuing education/ selfdevelopment and quality improvement activities

Proven high level strategic analytical and problemsolving skills

About the Department

The Barbara Walker Centre for Pain Management (BWCPM) is located at St Vincents Hospital Fitzroy and is predominantly an ambulatory (outpatient) interdisciplinary service that provides assessment treatment and consultation for patients with persistent pain. The service comprises specialist pain clinicians (Pain Medicine Physicians Pain Medicine trainees Psychiatrist Physiotherapists Psychologists Clinical Nurse Consultant Allied Health Assistant and Research Assistant) working as an integrated team to address the medical physical and psychosocial factors contributing to the persistence of pain and its consequent disability. The clinic provides care to a diverse group of clients from around Victoria many with complex needs offering treatment both individually and in groups. BWCPM delivers services to public private and compensable patients (Transport Accident Commission & Worksafe).
