Job Description

Overview

To manage all activities in single or multiple areas of responsibility concentrating on organizational technical and financial performance of the department(s); to participate in testing procedures on patients of all ages; and to resolve problems specific to broad based division function. Schedule

Full Time Day Shift

7:00am3:30pm

Every other weekend Night shift 10:00pm6:30am

$20000 Signon Bonus

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent required.

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or equivalent required.

Experience:

3 5 years of experience as a medical laboratory scientist required.

1 year supervisory experience preferred.

Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Working ConditionsPhysical Requirements & Atmosphere:

Demonstrates leadership abilities.

Demonstrates good communication skills.

Potential for exposure to infectious agents and/or physical injury.

Physical requirements include bending stooping reaching and carrying objects that may weigh up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the accurate performance of laboratory tests that determine the presence absence or cause of disease.

  1. Will conduct a full range of tests from the most routine to the most complex with little or no supervision.

  1. Responsible for the operation of computers precision instruments and other complex electronic equipment.

  1. Responsible for equipment budget and quality assurance reports. Researches and develops new procedures.

  1. Supervises and evaluates employees in the section.

  1. Performs venipunctures capillary collections and arterial punctures.

  1. Performs as the main educator for students in the department setting up curriculum and daily sessions to meet curriculum at the school they are attending (UIS and any other students we are contracted to host for educational purposes. Laboratory Science profession only.)

  1. Order and prepare reagents supplies and materials utilized in the department(s) supervise or delegate such responsibilities.

  1. Set up schedule of preventative maintenance for calibration and repairs of instrument and test equipment.

  1. Troubleshoot equipment and procedures as needed to assure patient safety through effective accurate testing.

  1. Review and sign procedures in their areas of responsibility on the designated time frame from Lab Policy to ensure completeness and conformity with applicable standards especially College of American Pathologists (CAP) requirements.

  1. Accepts Proficiency packages from CAP or designated manufacturer then assigns as appropriate to staff members for completion. Maintains records of such testing to conform to CAP standards as explained in custom checklist for the department.

  1. Participation in all GPE initiatives from leadership down to Lab subcommittee GPE initiatives.

  1. Performs other related work as required or requested.
