Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction provides visionary leadership oversight and coordination of all instructional programs and services across the division. This position ensures the alignment of curriculum instruction assessment and professional development to support the academic success of all students.

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • Act on behalf of the Superintendent in their absence to ensure continuity of leadership and instructional oversight
  • Provide strategic leadership in the development implementation and evaluation of longterm and shortterm instructional planning
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for school principals regarding daily instructional and administrative matters
  • Lead efforts to align instructional programs with the divisions strategic plan and continuous improvement goals
  • Guide the integration of innovative and researchbased instructional practices to enhance teaching and learning
  • Maintain current knowledge of educational trends legislation and research to inform program development
  • Oversee the coordination and delivery of professional development for teachers administrators and instructional staff
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to curriculum and instruction including Title I Title II and Title III programs
  • Supervise Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education curriculum supervisors Student Services staff and other personnel as designated by the Superintendent
  • Oversee the development revision and implementation of curriculum guides and instructional materials
  • Direct the evaluation and selection of textbooks and learning resources that reflect best practices and curriculum standards
  • Manage the instructional budget ensuring responsible allocation of resources to support teaching and learning
  • Assess staffing needs and provide recommendations to the Superintendent regarding personnel to support instructional priorities
  • Provide leadership in the planning and operation of summer school programs
  • Coordinate communication efforts to engage families the community and external stakeholders in understanding and supporting the divisions instructional goals
  • Support school leaders in student discipline decisionmaking and implementation of restorative practices
  • Collaborate with the technology department to integrate digital tools into instructional planning and delivery
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of instructional programs through data analysis and feedback mechanisms
  • Possess excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyze and interpret data to support decisionmaking and instructional improvement
  • Deliver effective public speaking and presentations for various audiences including large groups
  • Uphold an unquestionable degree of confidentiality and professional integrity
  • Exhibit strong organizational and timemanagement skills with the ability to multitask manage interruptions and work under pressure
  • Demonstrate dependability punctuality and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate the ability to multitask work with interruptions and work under pressure
  • Possess knowledge of Google Workspace (Docs Sheets Slides Drive Gmail Calendar etc.)
  • Demonstrate proficient use of cloudbased collaboration tools learning management systems and mobile devices to support instructional or operational needs
  • Perform additional duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five years of elementary or secondary classroom teaching experience.
  • Minimum of five years of educational leadership and management experience including service as a school principal.
  • Strong background in either elementary or secondary education with appropriate teaching certification at that level.
  • Masters degree required with eligibility for a Virginia Teachers License and an endorsement in Administration and Supervision of PreK12.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing successful schoolwide and/or divisionwide programs
  • Training and experience in mentoring and coaching school administrators
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative leadership including establishing goals and leading action plans to produce measurable results

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctorate in Educational Leadership Curriculum and Instruction Administration or a related field preferred with strong consideration given to candidates whose advanced studies align with divisionlevel leadership policy development or instructional improvement.
  • Experience in central office administration is preferred.

FLSA: Exempt

SALARY: $103511.66 $186468.39 annually with benefits; commensurate with experience (current salary scale may change due to budget considerations)
