Job Description

Te Whiwhinga mahi The opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Technologist (Teaching) to join our team at the Grafton campus.

The Senior Technologist (Teaching) is a recognised technical education expert who collaborates with academic staff students and stakeholders from the broader community to incorporate signature pedagogical practice aligned with their area of technical and clinical expertise.

With a deep knowledge of practical methods and underlying theory in their area of focus backed up by specific education qualifications or equivalent experience they have extensive and proven ability to support the complex operations relevant to their field.  They play a crucial role by providing expert advice and facilitating the integration of specialised or advanced methods and techniques.  They often make a substantial intellectual contribution to the design and delivery of effective pedagogical activities. 

Key responsibilities in the role include:

  • Lead the development preparation restoration and maintenance of wet specimens plastinated anatomical teaching specimens and bespoke highimpact teaching specimens.
  • Contribute to the operational oversight management and maintenance of the human teaching collections including prosections plastinated and pathology potted specimens ensuring appropriate lifecycle management of the anatomical specimen collections.
  • Contribute to the preservation and preparation of human anatomical specimens ensuring proper use of chemicals and techniques
  • Lead the development of equipment inventory and capability for the facility providing substantial input to capex proposals and business cases relating to assigned equipment.
  • Design and Development of Pedagogically Sound Learning Materials and Contextually Relevant Learning Activities Delivered at technicalsupported specialised learning spaces
  • Incorporate signature pedagogical practice into teaching and learning activities underpinning UoAs curriculum strategic direction. 
  • Integrate technical experience into the design and development of effective pedagogical activities that align with course learning outcomes.

This is a fulltime (37.5 hours per week) permanent opportunity.
The remuneration for the role is $83300 $102900 per annum dependent on skills and experience.

Qualifications :

To be successful in this role you will have:

Essential:

  • Graduate or postgraduate degree in the field of Anatomy and/or Pathology
  • 68 yrs. relevant experience.
  • Advanced technical skills in human anatomical prosecting
  • Understanding of embalming and the requirements of the Human Tissue Act 2008

Preferred:

  • Postgraduate in education or classroom teaching experience.
  • Proven experience working in a related field (Laboratory Funeral Home Hospital Mortuary).
  • Certified N95 respirator fit tester.
  • Proven experience in technical teaching
  • Active membership of a community of technical practitioners or teaching and learning community
