Position Summary:
DNA to RNA: An Inclusive Canadian Approach to Genomicbased RNA Therapeutics (D2R) is an ambitious $165M sevenyear research program launched in 2023 and led by McGill University and includes other academic partners. This program is funded by the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) the Government of Quebec multiple industry partners and notforprofit organizations and integrates Canadian and international research strengths to support discovery development and delivery of new genomicsbased RNA diagnostics and therapeutics.
Reporting to the Associate Director Business Development and Innovation the incumbent will be responsible for cultivating developing and establishing partnerships between D2R researchers (Faculty members) and industry partners to increase industry sponsored research agreements and technology transfer activity primarily to achieve the goals of D2R.
The incumbent will develop and nurture industry partnerships through targeted outreach external networking and responding to inbound industry requests. They will meet individually and regularly with McGill researchers across different faculties to coherently understand their research expertise and interests in working with industry partners. They will be organizing meetings between McGill researchers and industry partners to catalyze research synergies. The incumbent will also work alongside the Office of Innovation and Partnerships to identify opportunities and develop collaborations and partnerships with industry partners to license Intellectual Property and technologies stemming from D2Rfunded research.
The incumbent must possess knowledge of the academic research environment university policies and practices governing the conduct of research with industry partners and knowledge about various agreements such as sponsored research and nondisclosure agreements contracts and Intellectual Property. The incumbent must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills outstanding presentation and communication skills and ability to adapt to a highly dynamic multiteam environment. They will possess demonstrable experience in business development with a technical background in medicine health or biological sciences and eagerness to identify and grow new research and innovation ventures.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively work with members of D2R Business Development and Innovation team to plan develop and roll out plans and targeted activities that will generate industry collaborations and partnerships.
- Actively engage with McGill researchers to develop a coherent understanding of the research expertise at McGill and apply this understanding to match industry partners with mutual priorities research interests and/or technology transfer opportunities.
- Organize and host meetings (virtual and inperson) between McGill researchers industry partners and institutions to validate opportunities of mutual interest and bring industry participants onboard as research partners.
- Serve as a point of contact for industry inquiries regarding research partnerships and technology transfer opportunities. Assess and validate industry opportunities through due diligence and facilitate industry introductions to relevant McGill researchers.
- Maintain a diversified network of industry partners and organizations that exist in different innovation ecosystems. Proactively target health pharma and biotech sectors and industry partners for which there is potential for industry sponsored research and technology transfer.
- Build strong understanding of D2Rrelated government funding programs requiring industry collaboration.
- Represent D2R at internal and external meetings events conferences workshops and symposia to promote D2Rs mission and expand D2Rs network of industry partners.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- A bachelors degree in a D2Rrelated field.
- One to two (12) years of related experience in business development technology transfer or R&D in a private or public organization.
- Experience in researching and analyzing industry trends to inform on targeted outreach.
- Ability to comprehend technical discussions related to research and to make connections with D2R researchers based on industry partners interests.
- Experience in designing validating and rolling out stakeholder plans.
- Ability to convey to industry partners the aspirations of McGill researchers while considering the industry partners interests confidentiality requirements and governing policies at McGill.
- Strong timemanagement problemsolving and selfdirected learning skills.
- Selfmotivated and resourceful in gathering information and identifying solutions.
- Manage relationships with creativity professionalism and tact diplomacy.
- Ability to prioritize the interests of McGill researchers in the context of industry opportunities.

- Intermediate to advanced computer skills and comfortable using multiple types of software.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in French and English.

This position is funded by CFREF Award entitled DNA to RNA: An Inclusive Canadian Approach to Genomicbased RNA Therapeutics (CFREF) and related funding from the Government of Quebec with a project end date of February 28th 2030 and will only be active for the duration of the research grant.
