Assistant Director of Junior School (Internal)
Reports to: Director of Junior School
Term: 1year term with review periods in November February and April.
Teaching Load: The successful candidate will receive a reduced teaching load equivalent to 0.5 FTE to provide dedicated time to manage Junior School practice while continuing to make an impact in the classroom.
Stipend: $6000 annual stipend.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Junior School the Assistant Director of Junior School will play a significant role in ensuring Fraser Academys culture and pedagogy is strategically aligned to serve the needs of students with dyslexia in the Junior School. We seek a highly skilled educator who embodies Fraser Academys mission values and has a clear passion for serving students with dyslexia. This leader is responsible for Junior School classroom pedagogy the development of our classroom teachers and will work in collaboration with the Executive Director of Learning Services. The successful candidate must model excellent practice be energetic forward thinking highly accountable a handson worker and able to motivate those around them.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure continuity of learning throughout all Junior School (JS) grade levels taking into consideration scope and sequence classroom practices assessment and crosscollaborative handson learning
- Provide pedagogical coaching and support for JS faculty
- Collaborate with the math remediation team
- Collaborate with the Executive Function JS lead
- Assist with the onboarding and training of new JS faculty in schoolbased programs and practices
- Support staff in the communication with families regarding classroom learning
- Liaise with families regarding student learning progress and development plans and support faculty communication with families
- Collaborate with the Director of Junior School and SEL Counsellor to oversee the successful integration of students into FA
- Coordinate with the Counselling team and Director of Junior School to identify students who need additional supports and develop responsive plans
- Assist with pastoral care including addressing and resolving issues of student behavior and peer relations utilizing the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions model
- Connect with parents and faculty regarding pastoral interventions and student support plans
AND one of the following focus projects:
OE
Review current OE curriculum to maximize opportunities to transfer concepts into real world settings
- Plan and organize offerings to link OE to classroom lessons and curriculum
- Plan classroom lesson links to support grade level competencies
- Lead OE trips
- Obtain Class 3 Drivers License
OR
Writing
Create a rigorous writing scope and sequence with a focus towards strengthening students research and writing skills using best practices
- Review current resources and scope/sequences
- Collaborate with Department Leadership to align goals based on FA Portrait of a Grad
- Create lessons at each grade level that
- Incorporates explicit teaching at each grade level
- Focuses on note taking research skills and comprehension
- Utilize instructional coaching techniques to support classroom teachers with lessons

Requirements:
- A valid BC teaching certificate
- 5 Years of classroom and teaching experience
- Evidence of a leadership role in an Education environment
- Experience with mentoring and supporting staff
- Curriculum and program development implementation & leadership experience
- Understanding and experience with implementing the new BC curriculum
