Job Description:
Reporting to the Dean of the School of Wellness Public Safety and Community Studies the Academic Chair provides broad academic leadership to the diverse programs in the department. The Academic Chair Community Studies ensures that the programming meets the needs of students and community partners and adheres to Ministry guidelines.
The Chair has familiarity with academic and administrative policies and understands the importance of crossdepartmental collaboration. The Academic Chair is accountability for planning development delivery quality assurance and financial viability of the Departments offerings while ensuring the effective use of current pedagogical and financial practices. The incumbent ensures that objectives of the programs offered by the School are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning processes. The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with the other departments within the School of Wellness Public Safety and Community Studies to lead and support applied research and simulation initiatives.
The incumbent conducts firstlevel investigation of complaints from students and staff and initiates the problemsolving process. The incumbent establishes positive working relationships with internal employees students and external industry and business representatives. The incumbent participates in student recruitment and College marketing efforts.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a masters degree in social work early learning disability studies child and youth care social sciences and/or education;
Minimum nine (9) years of relevant experience with increasingly responsible roles. This must include a minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory/management/leadership role;
Demonstrated management/leadership style preferably within a unionized environment that nurtures individual initiative and creativity within the context of organizational goals;
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to student success teaching excellence quality education preferably within an applied postsecondary environment.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in simulation and/or applied research;
Strong communication and interpersonal skills that make you a consensus builder and problem solver;
Demonstrated planning organizational time management and financial management skills to execute plans.
