This position will be for the evening shift from the hours of 2:30 pm 11:00 pm.

POSITION SUMMARY

To maintain and install all the building automation system (BAS) Controls components within CHEO. Sometimes this is through a contractor but the Controls Technician has main role in the design coordination and implementation of this work.

A Controls Technician at CHEO is responsible for installing repairing and maintaining the instrumentation and control systems that are used to support the operations of the facility. This may include sensors actuators control valves pumps exhaust fans pneumatic systems and other heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment that is used to monitor and control various systems within the facility. They work closely with other members of the maintenance team to ensure that the systems are operating efficiently and safely and they may be called upon to troubleshoot and fix any issues that arise. This includes department and capital projects.

Must be available to work scheduled overtime and participate in rotational afterhours coverage up to four times annually.


JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Be responsible for the daytoday operation of the building automation system and related controls.

  • Assume lead role in the ongoing monitoring of HVAC control systems including trouble shooting and adjusting of schedules in all CHEO locations.

  • Liaise directly with internal and external contacts.

  • Be responsible for the energy efficient operation of building systems to ensure BAS access for maintenance.

  • Investigate and respond to occupant comfort issues and HVAC equipment operational issues.

  • Oversee control system diagnostics for integrity of system operation and troubleshooting malfunctions and provide plausible solutions to ensure the system is functioning to the highest standards.

  • Prepare work orders for repair of equipment.

  • Complete electrical and mechanical assessments of existing equipment at hospital facilities on a regular basis and inspect utility monitoring devices.

  • Provide technical input to the solution of maintenance problems material standards purchase of new equipment and to capital projects.

  • Inspect and report on BAS equipment conditions and provide input on upgrades of equipment.

  • Provide input and feedback in the development and implementation of the CHEO wide energy conservation program and participates in all CHEO wide sustainability activities

  • Provide building automation training and operational support to staff.

  • Assure work area is kept safe and clean.

  • Perform work in accordance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all CHEO corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to Occupational Health and Safety.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal Record Check (Essential)

  • Candidate must hold a valid National Instrumentation and Control Technician Electrical or other related certificate (Red Seal). (Essential)

  • Minimum of five (5) years and valid qualifications as a National Instrumentation and Control Technician Electrical or other related certificate (Red Seal) (Essential)

  • Experience in Hospitals and Healthcare Facilities (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of mechanical and HVAC systems. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated basic computer programming skills for Building Automation Systems. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated mechanically inclined and electronically inclined. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated computer office and word processing skills (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work with power and hand tools (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work in a multiskilled environment (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work on interdisciplinary project teams. (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated good verbal and written communication skills (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to prioritize tasks effectively (Preferred)

  • Fluently bilingual in French and English (Preferred)

Le technicien ou la technicienne des contrles de CHEO est responsable de linstallation de la rparation et de lentretien des systmes dinstrumentation et des contrles utiliss pour soutenir les oprations de ltablissement. Il peut sagir de capteurs dactionneurs de vannes de rglage de pompes de ventilateurs dextraction de systmes pneumatiques et dautres quipements de chauffage de ventilation et de climatisation (CVC) qui sont utiliss pour surveiller et contrler divers systmes dans ltablissement. La personne travaille en troite collaboration avec les autres membres de lquipe dentretien pour sassurer que les systmes fonctionnent efficacement et en toute scurit et elle peut tre appele dpanner et rgler tout problme qui se prsente. Cela comprend les projets au sein des services et les projets dimmobilisations.

Doit tre disponible pour faire des heures supplmentaires prvues au calendrier et pour travailler tour de rle en dehors des heures de travail normales jusqu quatre fois par anne.
