Purpose
The Illustration Intern at IslamicFamily will play a key role in developing visual content for a legal education project aimed at supporting newcomers to Canada. This internship focuses on creating accessible culturally sensitive illustrations for a series of legal guides while also contributing to the development of a brandwide illustration guide and organizational illustrations as secondary tasks.

About the Role
- Legal Guide Illustration (Primary Focus)
- Create a cohesive set of illustrations for newcomer legal education modules
- Collaborate with content developers to translate legal concepts into clear visual elements
- Ensure visuals are culturally appropriate and accessible to diverse newcomer audiences
- Brand Illustration Guide (Secondary)
- Develop a visual style guide outlining consistent standards for future illustrations
- Define character styles color schemes and use cases that reflect IslamicFamilys tone
- Organizational Illustrations
- Produce illustrations for general use in communications and community engagement
- Ensure all visuals align with IslamicFamilys mission and values

Key Responsibilities
- Create illustrations for newcomer legal guide modules based on provided scripts and themes
- Participate in design planning and reviews to ensure illustrations align with communication goals
- Develop a visual guide for illustrations used across IslamicFamilys projects
- Contribute to general visual content needs as time and priorities allow
- Ensure all illustrations respect cultural and accessibility considerations
Work Plan
This work plan offers a rough outline of the internship and is subject to change based on project needs feedback cycles and organizational priorities. Well remain flexible to ensure the experience is both impactful and supportive of your growth.
Week 1:
- Learn about IslamicFamilys mission values and the communities we serve
- Familiarize yourself with the legal guide project and its goals
- Meet with the communications and content teams to understand project priorities
Week 2:
- Develop the visual direction for the legal guide project
- Begin drafting the illustration guide specific to the project (style tone characters color palette)
- Share initial concepts for feedback
Week 3 to 4:
- Finalize the illustration guide for the project
- Begin developing illustration assets for Module 1 (the largest and most detailed module)
- Review and revise based on team feedback
Week 5:
- Begin illustrations for Module 2
- Meet with project leads to ensure visuals align with content goals
Week 6:
- Complete Module 2 illustrations
- Start initial concepts for Module 3
Week 7:
- Complete illustrations for Module 3
- Conduct a projectwide review of all illustrations and ensure consistency across modules
Week 8:
- Begin working on a broader organizational illustration guide
- Draft visuals that reflect IslamicFamilys brand identity and values
Week 9:
- Begin developing general illustrations for use across IslamicFamilys platforms
- Final review and feedback sessions
- Present the completed project illustrations and guides to the team
Education/Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a program in Illustration Visual Arts Graphic Design or a related field
- Strong illustration portfolio ideally including work in education storytelling or social impact
- Proficient with digital tools such as Adobe Illustrator or Procreate
- Awareness of or interest in newcomer issues and legal rights is an asset
