Job Description

Water/Wastewater Treatment Engineer

The Opportunity

As a part of our continued growth AECOM is actively seeking a creative highly talented Water/Wastewater Engineer to join our treatment plants team in Winnipeg Manitoba.  The candidate for this position will work on municipal water/wastewater treatment pump station and related infrastructure projects in all phases from planning and feasibility to detailed design construction and commissioning.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Work successfully within a team environment and communicate effectively with other project team members and clients
  • Perform assignments requiring application of standard techniques procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks
  • Undertake preliminary and detailed engineering design activities
  • Exercise judgement limited to developing details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives
  • Develop engineering designs sketches diagrams schematics and technical specifications
  • Complete technical calculations and analysis to support design decisions
  • Prepare technical reports and plans
  • Review of quantity and cost estimates for completeness and accuracy
  • Support in the delivery of infrastructure to clients mostly within the municipal water and wastewater sectors
  • Provide contract administration including reviewing contractor submittals and payment applications
  • Provide technical support on construction projects including performing site visits to confirm conformance to design drawings and specifications
  • Coordinate the work of a multidiscipline team of engineers
  • Support project managers as a deputy project manager
  • Pursue and deliver new water/wastewater projects with private and municipal clients
  • Actively engage in professional development and industry events

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Environmental Civil Biosystems Chemical or Process)
  • 4 years of experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education in the municipal water/wastewater industry
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Manitoba (or eligible to become registered within 12 months)

Preferred Requirements:

  • 6 years of progressive experience 
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
  • Proficient using common software packages (Excel Word MS Project PowerPoint)
  • Familiarity with industry standards and strong working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment design and engineering
  • Willing to travel to and visit active construction sites providing field review services
  • Strong organizational interpersonal problem solving and analytical skills
  • Motivated team player independent organized with strong business acumen
  • Experience working in the consulting industry and with project management concepts principles and duties
  • Proven ability to write winning proposals and obtain new work
  • Good working knowledge of industry standard and local municipal standards and guidelines are considered an asset
