Job Description

Title: Substitute Instructional Assistant

Department:Migrant Education

Classification: Substitute

Supervised by:Migrant Education Director or designee

Wage:$22.0024.00 per hour. Per CBA Article 5 Compensation G.1 Working overtime (beyond 40 hours per week) must be preapproved by the Department Director or Superintendent.

Work Year:June 17 July 18 2025

Job Purpose Statement:

In a substitute asneeded capacity to provide instructional assistance and support to preschool children with disabilities in selfcontained Early Childhood Special Education classrooms fully integrated classrooms or other settings as specified in Individual Family Service Plans.

Job Qualifications: Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent;
  • 72 quarter hours of accredited college or equivalent education or successfully passed Work Keys Test in the areas of Math Reading and Business Writing Preferred (Required for Title I Funded Programs)

Licenses Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance
  • Valid Drivers License and evidence of insurability
  • Successfully pass district background screening

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required.   • Knowledge of basic teaching methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of program instructional materials and their uses.
  • Knowledge of effective student management techniques.
  • Knowledge of current office and classroom practices and procedures.
  • Ability to enjoy interaction with and effectively supervise students.
  • Ability to instruct a wide variety of students in a number of different situations.
  • Ability to understand the phases and temperaments of children and young adolescents at different growth and maturity levels.
  • Ability to pass and physically demonstrate the physical restraint of students under the Oregon State Restraint and CPI Guidelines.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in stressful situations.
  • Ability to operate basic office and audiovisual equipment.
  • Ability to accurately perform alphabetizing recordkeeping and filing procedures.
  • Ability to accurately transfer record and convey information and materials as required by the position.
  • Ability to abide by the confidentiality rights of students and parents.
  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances.

COVID19 Vaccine Mandate

Oregon schools have been directed by the Governor under OARto ensure that school teachers staff and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID19. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days after receiving all required doses of an approved COVID19 vaccine (currently two shots of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one shot of Johnson & Johnson vaccine). Under this rule employees must provide proof of COVID19 vaccination. Exemptions may be made only for eligible medical or religious reasons.
