Role:
Grayson College is seeking to fill a fulltime (10.5 month) faculty position in Viticulture and Enology. The successful candidate will have teaching responsibilities in undergraduate lecture and laboratory classes in Wine Laws and Regulations Wine Marketing Principles of Enology Principles of Viticulture Grapevine Biology Analysis of Must and Wine Grape and Wine Chemistry Food Science Winegrowing Regions of the World and Wine Types and Sensory Evaluation. Teaching assignments will vary from semester to semester and could include day evening and weekends. Instruction will comprise a variety of modalities such as traditional face2face online and hybrid. Teaching locations could include both campuses local high schools and other locations as assigned. Additional responsibilities include student advising degree audits industry advisory committee duties curriculum development program budgets serving on select committees and other duties as assigned. This position also coordinates activities at the T.V. Munson Memorial Vineyard and the T.V. Munson Viticulture and Enology Center. The Director is responsible for all aspects of the Viticulture and Enology program and reports to the Department Chair of Biological and Physicals Sciences and Dean of Academic and Workforce Instruction.

  • Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
    • 65% Teaches at least 15 SCHS of Viticulture and Enology courses per long semester; meets classes as assigned and provides assistance to students outside of class; participates in community outreach initiatives; oversees and maintains the GC Vineyard; responsible for preserving and propagating the worldrenown Munson varieties that are under the stewardship of Grayson College and the T.V. Munson Foundation; develops and maintains existing industry/community relationships that support this program; fosters and maintains strong working relationships with local and regional wineries industry experts.
    • 10% Works as a team member in the Biological and Physical Sciences Department; complies with the faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty Handbook and the Colleges Policy and Procedure Manual.
    • 10% Develops and updates curriculum participates in college committees and assists in registration advisement and recruiting of students; stays current with the latest scientific advances techniques and technology in winemaking and winery management incorporating that information into academic curriculum as appropriate.
    • 10% Contributes to the campus assessment process by measuring and reporting student learning outcomes as directed to meet THECB Core Objectives and SACSCOC requirements.
    • 5% Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean and Department Chair.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    • Education: Previous successful experience teaching in a college or university setting or previous employment as a successful viticulture and enology professional with commercial wine production experience.
      • Preferred Experience with both practical and technical aspects of winemaking process and understanding of regulatory requirements is required

    • Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage students in the learning process and proven commitment to student success. Collegial attitude with college community as well as outside entities. Cooperative attitude and excellent team skills.
    • Other Skills: Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple assignments. Experience tracking student learning outcomes analyzing resultant data and implementing improvement plans. Excellent computer and multimedia skills. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
    • Physical Requirements: The work requires moderate physical exertion typically associated with vineyard care and includes such activities as standing walking bending and periodic lifting of heavy objects between 30 and 50 pounds.
    • Work Environment:Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.
