Applied Materials VCS Software Engineering Department is searching for a Coop to join our team for Fall 2025! Our department works on control systems for our business unit which builds ION implanters used in the manufacturing of computer chips and power electronics. Specifically our team works on improving performance using Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. We already have several patents and papers published and are experimenting with cutting edge AI technology. The position will entail the following:
- Reducing very large (many TB) proprietary datasets to Parquet / Pandas formats for use in several new and ongoing AI projects
- Using both Cloudbased Cloudera infrastructure for developing and running AI experiments using Jupyter Notebooks
- Developing models from computer simulations to do digital twins
- Neural Nets Reinforcement Learning DNNs CNNs RNNs LSTMs ESNs and more
- Machine Learning Bayesian Networks Gaussian Process SVMs Random Forests Isolation Forests
- Assisting physicists in exploring various AI projects.
- Dates of coop are Sept. 2 2025 Dec.hours/week

Requirements
- Preference for students in their final year in a Bachelors or Masters program in AI related field such as Computer Science Physics or Engineering
- Student must be in good academic standing at their university with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
- Quick learner and willing to learn or already familiar with Python and C#
Compensation
$31 $37 per hour
The rate offered to a selected candidate will be based on a number of factors including location and education level and will vary depending on confirmed jobrelated knowledge skills and experience.

NoThe salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location hire grade jobrelated knowledge skills experience and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program as applicable.
For all sales roles the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
