Job Description

Systems and Applications Engineer

Are you one of a number of enthusiastic and selfdriven Systems and Applications Engineers we need to join our UK regional customer support teams for the UK and Ireland

Are you a skilled systems engineer with experience of supporting customers in the pulp & paper and energy or allied industries

Location: North East Homebased offices inSeaham / Warrington

Valmet (Automation Solutions Business Area) provides total power plant (waste to energy) and process automation as well as controls and measurement solutions for the paper making industry amongst others. These solutions utilise the Valmets high technology DCS Information Management and Machine Condition and Runnability Monitoring Systems.

Reporting to the Area Service Manager you will be field based working from home/office in the North East / Scotland in this frontline customer facing role.

You will adhere to regulatory and Company health safety and environmental policy and as this is a customerfacing role you will be required to positively influence the Valmet reputation by displaying a professional dedication toward customer service.

You will be involved in the delivery of projects maintenance and breakdown services to Valmets UK installed base customers within the Power Generation Process industries Paper Making Minerals and the Marine sectors.

Occasionally you will be required to support customers shut periods which will involve short periods away from home and significant paid overtime.

Whilst primarily employed to look after Valmets growing installed base in your North East region there will be a necessity to travel within the UK and occasionally within the EU with resulting time away from home.

You will provide routine and on demand customer service including software development and documentation maintenance / inspection of automation systems which will include providing periodic out of hours OnCall emergency support. At other times you may be deployed within our Operations Team to provide project and commissioning support on large scale capital projects.

Expectations:

You will

  • Be highly motivated with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to form and maintain working relationships with customers and colleagues at all levels.
  • Have a broad range of experience and knowledge of DCS (SCADA/PLC) Instrumentation systems and associated wiring Safety Instrumented Systems Information Management (Database/SQL) Machine Control or Condition Monitoring.
  • Have experience of field service work with regional (North East) travel with occasionally travelling beyond the region.
  • Be able to plan and work independently and efficiently in the delivery of service projects
  • Be collaborative and supportive in your approach to working as part of a team
  • Be qualified to at least HNC / HND level in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Have a minimum of three years work experience with Automation Systems DCS PLC/SCADA SRS
  • Have a strong understanding of IT concepts including Networks Security and Operating Systems
  • Be able to design / generate / modify DCS / SIS application software and hardware to fulfil customer requirements / specifications
  • Be able to diagnose repair and maintain electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Have experience of providing detailed project / service documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Be able to effectively outline promote and recommend the Companys products / services and solutions to provide for the longterm operation / improvement of customer processes
  • Have a full valid UK driving licence.

You may

  • Have experience of Valmet DNA DCS
  • Have experience of Hima Safety Instrumented System
  • Know about Functional Safety (TUV)
  • Be qualified to Bachelors degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Have experience of identifying business opportunities at customers sites.
