Full time starting salary is normally in the range 36130 to 45413 with potential progression once in post to 48149

Grade: 7

Full Time Fixed Term contract up to June 2026

Closing date: 22nd May 2025

UK and International travel may be required for this role.

Background

To create and contribute to the creation of knowledge by undertaking a specified range of activities within an established research programme and/or specific research project.

We are seeking to appoint a fulltime Research Fellow to project manage the delivery of our EU Horizon funded Youth reach project.

Youth reach will work in close collaboration with young people to evaluate three very promising interventions all using innovative preventive transdiagnostic approaches necessary to tackle the current challenges our young people are facing offering valuable perspectives to the next generation of young people and healthcare professionals. These three interventions are complementary and together will offer a complete integrated youth mental health prevention & early intervention package including:

1. An accessible free walkin centre designed to promote trust within a youthfriendly anonymous setting.

2. A smartphonebased selfhelp app enabling young people to actively manage their own mental health.

3. A hybrid online platform involving both professional and peer support.

Youth Reach is coordinated by Maastricht University and is supported by 12 countries across Europe. The University of Birmingham is leading on the stakeholder engagement work package and will also support the evaluation of the three interventions within local services.

Role Summary

  • Work within the specified research grant (Youth reach) andwork towards deliverable outputs and milestones
  • Contribute towards project managing research activities and/or supervising other research staff
  • Build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders and engage them meaningfully in research
  • Liaise and work in close partnership with consortium members across Europe including European travel
  • Plan and publish high quality research supported by the study team
  • Convene and facilitate advisory groups
  • Present findings in high quality publications and conference proceedings
  • Data collection and analyse and interpret research findings and results
  • Contribute to generating funding.

Main Duties

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Contribute towards undertaking management/administration arising from research
  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods such as scientific experimentation literature reviews and research interviews
  • Contribute to writing bids for research funding
  • Analyse and interpret data
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
  • Disseminate research findings for publication research seminars etc
  • Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
  • Contribute to developing new models techniques and methods
  • Contribute to Departmental/School researchrelated activities and researchrelated administration
  • Present research outputs including drafting academic publications or parts thereof for example at seminars and as posters
  • Provide guidance as required to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Promotes equality and values diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture.

Person Specification

  • PhD completed or close to completion in a relevant subject area
  • High level analytical capability
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • European travel will be likely therefore a valid passport/visa will be required
  • Proficiency in a second European language (German Italian Spanish Dutch or Estonian) is desirable but not essential
  • Fluency in relevant models techniques or methods and ability to contribute to developing new ones
  • Ability to assess resource requirements and use resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
  • Contribute to the planning and organising of the research programme and/or specific research project
  • Coordinate own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010 and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
  • Requirement for DBS Occupational Health Check and awareness of the Data Protection Act (DPA).
