Job Description:

Nebraska Public Media is hiring a parttime radio announcer who has an engaging onair presence the ability to smoothly operate an audio board and write and deliver effective copy. Under limited supervision research produces and announces an onair shift for Nebraska Educational Telecommunications; performs related work as assigned. If you have a strong voice an eagerness to learn and an appreciation for public radio please apply.

Must be able to work weeknight and weekend hours. However we welcome applications even from those who cant commit to all listed hours.

Current Open Shifts:
Monday Tuesday & Friday 710pm
Saturday 129pm
Sunday 124pm



Under limited supervision research produces and announces an onair shift for Nebraska Educational Telecommunications; performs related work as assigned. The Radio Announcer class is responsible for daily shift announcer and news broadcasts. The Radio Announcer/Producer class utilizes professional judgment to determine overall content and effectiveness of radio programming and may supervise Radio Announcers.

Examples of Work:

  • Researches and recommends purchases of musical recordings for onair programs.
  • Assists in developing overall theme for network broadcasts.
  • Evaluates public responses in planning for network broadcasts.
  • Monitors news releases and other information.
  • Reviews for announcing on regular onair shift.
  • Announces an onair shift.
  • Monitors on air sound.
  • Operates broadcast studio equipment.
  • Reports difficulties to engineering staff.
  • Assists in developing promotional materials for new programs.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Experience and education or training in broadcast journalism or music

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of: classical music and composers; journalism; broadcast and receiving equipment and technology.

Ability to: organize program materials and information into logical sequence; maintain good community relations; orally communicate clearly; evaluate program themes and recordings; evaluate news content; elicit information from others; meet deadlines; be creative.
