Join ourData Collection Bureau

Support the DistrictsData Collection Bureau by managingthe Districts scientific enterprise database associated data processing applications (e.g. Environmental Data Portal (EDP) a user interface) and stored hydrologic data to ensure accuracy completeness and availability of valuable water resource data to internal and external customers.

The Hydrologic Data Systems Analyst will ensure hydrologic data reports and related graphics are produced in a timely manner by ensuring data flows between databases and the R scripts used to generate the reports. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to ensure successful operation of data management upload and download processes and will develop and maintain adhoc and automated data transfers across database systems through coordination with software vendors Information Technology Bureau staff and Hydrologic Data office and field staff. Assists in assessing data management system performance and identifying and implementing modifications and enhancements and ensures quality control by evaluating identifying and resolving data issues. This opportunity offers an ability to use creative skills to develop process improvements that will make an impact on the organization. It also provides flexibility and a true worklife balance. Thestartingsalary ranges are included for theData Analystprofile which reflects theminimum to approximately 24.8% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the application administrator for the hydrologic data management system that contains hydrologic data collected by the Hydrologic Data Section. Develops supports and improves data retrieval tools related to this system such as the Environmental Data Portal and advanced data queries (R Shiny apps).

  • Develops and maintains data transfer processes to ingest data from multiple databases into the hydrologic data management system. Data is transferred from internal databases that include continuous nearreal time data continuous manually download data and manually collected field data. External sources include data from U.S. Geological Survey Tampa Bay Water National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration and contractors/consultants.

  • Maintains and occasionally develops data pipelines that transform raw data into usable formats cleanses data inconsistencies and reviews necessary metadata to ensure complete and accurate data reports.

  • Reliably produces daily weekly monthly and asneeded reports currently written in R and SAS. Ensures data reports are readily available reliable and usable by section staff and internal and external users. Develops new scripts as needed.

  • Coordinates closely with the Information Technology Bureau to ensure data pipeline integrity by maintaining automated and ad hoc data transfers across various systems. Includes coordination with software vendors communicating issues software and server upgrades server maintenance and testing.

  • Works with various scripting languages to create and maintain automated data reports including R Shiny apps that query data from the database.

  • Performs statistical analysis mapping and reporting of hydrologic data to identify trends patterns and potential issues.

  • Works with interdisciplinary teams sharing information and contributing to collaborative efforts.

  • Responds to staff and public requests for hydrologic data. Assists internal and external users with data retrievals and training. Mentors Hydrologic Data Section staff as needed.

Preferred Credentials for Hydrologic Data Systems Analyst

  • Experience and/or academic work in hydrology waterresource data natural resource data or related field.

  • Experience with leveraging both R and Python to handle diverse data science tasks including data cleaning and transformation.

  • Proficiency in Python Toad for SQL and/or other scripting languages

  • Proficient in utilizing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to automate workflows perform data queries and enhance scripting capabilities

  • Data management experience

  • Statistical analysis

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Familiarity with District data collection networks

  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make wellfounded decisions

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams

Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week Monday to Friday out of theBrooksville FLoffice however some remote work may be available. This position iseligible for compensatory time for hoursworked over 40 hours in a week.
