Job Description

Overview

The Classroom Installation & Design Technician (Technical Coordinator SR) is a fulltime nonexempt position focused on the installation maintenance design and evaluation of classroom technology. This position will be based in the Classroom Technology and AV Services department at the USU Logan Campus under the the Office of the Vice President for Online & Digital Learning Technology. Work hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with additional evening and weekend hours as needed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Responsibilities

Classroom installation and Support (70%):

Responsible for the installation commissioning maintenance and troubleshooting of all classroom technology equipment including Crestron devices QSYS Zoom Room technology audio systems laptops and cameras. Assure highquality customer service and prompt response to requests of USU staff administrators faculty members students and the public in the support of classroom technology.


Classroom Technology Design and Evaluation (20%): Design technologyenhanced classrooms using the latest best practices market research and USU standards. Evaluate the effectiveness of the classroom technology in the teaching and learning environment.

Training (5%): Provide training on the use of classroom technologies to faculty and staff.

Equipment Mapping Documentation (5%): Responsible for infrastructure records for classroom equipment including inventory adherence to codes specifications University standards and suggesting improvements for the technical soundness of designs. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 years combination of experience and/or education (e.g. 6 years experience Bachelors degree plus 2 years experience Associates degree plus 4 years experience etc.)
  • Experience performing classroom A/V installations and maintenance.
  • Current Avixa CTS Certification OR ability to attain Certification within 6 months.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours as needed (e.g. sometimes evening or weekend hours)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with video conferencing classroom design and technology use.
  • Knowledge of USU policies and procedures.
  • Strong established track record of exceptional customer service training and technology support.
  • Avixa CTSI and Avixa ANP certification.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of classroom technology; Crestron QSYS Dante networked audio analog audio and Zoom Rooms.
  • Ability to solve problems work well under pressure manage multiple/routine tasks simultaneously take initiative within project scope and work with little supervision.
  • Skilled with computer hardware and software including Word Excel Outlook PowerPoint and the ability to learn new systems.
  • Knowledge of videoconferencing networks and equipment (cameras projectors audio systems etc.).
  • Willingness to undertake any necessary training needed to perform job functions or to enhance performance.
  • Exceptional interpersonal organizational and communication skills (verbal and written) including ability to work well with other technical staff in a team environment.
  • Ability to train others both nontechnical endusers and technical staff.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records create reports and maintain confidentiality.
  • Attention to detail and followup.
  • Ability to lift 80 pounds.
  • Ability to work from a ladder.

This position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling kneeling and squatting. Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.

The majority of the work will be in classrooms on the Logan Campus.
