About the role

Our Intensive Family Support program offers voluntary inhome family support to families who are at risk of entering or re entering the Child Protection System. Through case management and effective relationship building we aim to strengthen families so children can live at home safely free from abuse and neglect.

As our Case Manager (Child & Family Practitioner) you will engage and provide intensive support to at risk families to help them make positive choices in their parenting. Using your practice framework as well as Structured DecisionMaking tools you will undertake an initial assessment of a familys strengths and needs and develop case plans that build on the familys resilience to enable them to overcome risks and increase the familys functioning.

Duties

  • Collaborate with child protection and community services to enhance safety and family functioning at home with the goal of keeping children at home with family where safe to do so.
  • Work closely with family using Common Assessment Tools to inform a wholistic assessment of families strengths and needs.
  • Engage clients of all ages developing implementing and reviewing client plans with a focus on strengths and risk reduction.
  • Utilise your skills and knowledge to tailor in home support to the family by way of tailored parenting approaches developmental support education harm minimisation re substance misuse and DFV support where appropriate and required.
  • Be a key worker to coordinate a care team around the family to ensure comprehensive support and access to necessary resources.
  • Join a dynamic team of specialists dedicated to delivering best practice and trauma informed approaches to assist families to have happy healthy and safe homes.

Skills and Experience

We want you to be successful in your new role! This means youll have a Bachelors Degree in Social Work or Human Services field and:

  • Two years relevant experience (desirable but not essential).
  • Excellent understanding of child protection issues and client vulnerabilities such as drug and alcohol use domestic violence mental health issues and the impact of trauma and the effect on childhood behaviour and development.
  • Experience managing complex cases & working with children young people and their families who are either at risk of entering or who have had involvement with the child protection system.
  • Working in a strengthsbased resilience framework to achieve lasting change.
  • A strong understanding of how trauma impacts individuals and a skill set of adapting approaches to respond to individual needs.
  • An understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples cultures and society and the issues which impact them with a commitment to culturally safe practice
  • A Current Drivers License.
