GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Enter the remains of our nations heroes the men and women who serve and have served in our Armed Forces to ensure the freedoms that we all enjoy in this country. To ensure that the cemetery is kept up to the high standards of the National Cemetery Administration State of Wyoming and Wyoming Military Department in a manner that bestows honor on the individuals that are interred within. In the absence of the Director step into his position and become the acting Director of the cemetery and assume his responsibilities. Supervise all subordinates to ensure that they are being utilized to the cemeteries fullest capacity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.


  • OTSVC encompasses 115 acres that are to be maintained to include the beautification and maintenance of 15 developed acres that have six key burial sites.
  • Three inground cremation sections totaling 1600 grave sites one open full burial section with 1947 traditional sites one open full burial site with 612 preplaced burial crypts and a column barium park with 1600 aboveground niches an interment chapel office residence building 2 maintenance buildings three small outbuildings over 400 trees underground irrigation system with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) pump and 100 unirrigated rough natural acres.
  • Maintains fencing in all areas.
  • As seasonal maintenance dictates the 15 developed acres are mowed biweekly and grounds are aerated and fertilized monthly to promote healthy green turf.
  • The fertilization process utilizes an application of an Ammonium Nitrate mixture and 90% granulated Sulfur is used to maintain the turf.
  • The grounds and trees are to be kept disease insect and weedfree per NCA guidelines.
  • Various chemicals are applied including herbicides insecticides fungicides tree fertilizers antibiotics and micronutrients.
  • Knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) properties proper mixture and application process of these chemicals must be utilized for the health of turf and trees and the safety of the applicator and the public.
  • Maintain a fire line in the rough peripheral areas to reduce fire hazards to developed acreage and buildings.
  • Irrigation maintenance piping ranging from diameter to 6 diameter various types of geardriven and impact sprinklers. Repair in a timely manner to lessen the damage to the turf.
  • Winterizing the irrigation system to prevent damage to the piping and VFD pump.
  • Dewinterization and activation of the irrigation system to check for damage and proper function.
  • Winter maintenance consists of snow and ice removal from streets and sidewalks to keep the cemetery open during business hours for funerals interments and memorial functions to ensure safe passage for attendees.
  • Perform maintenance of equipment on a daily weekly or monthly basis to ensure the safe and proper function of equipment. If major repairs are determined the solution for the repair.
  • Inspects buildings for general upkeep and makes repairs as needed including light electrical work replacing light bulbs and defective fixtures plumbing painting carpentry welding masonry roofing gutter and siding repair housekeeping cleaning restrooms office and chapel carpets with vacuums and carpets cleaners stripping and waxing floors cleaning windows.
  • Conduct interments in accordance with VA standards.
  • The handling of deceased human remains in the form of cremation and full body that may not have been embalmed or have been subject to extreme environmental conditions resulting in incomprehensible handling requirements. Examples include the opening of the casket to remove hardware to accommodate the size of the burial container thus being in direct contact with the deceased or being subject to the extreme aroma emitted from the burial container.
  • Placing caskets into burial containers for transportation to the burial site.
  • Prepares gravesites cutting removing and replacing turf placing numerous pieces of fiberglass boards to protect turf from damage caused by equipment locating the correct graves to open specialized procedures for thawing frozen ground and snow removal for a safe working area.
  • In various types of extreme weather conditions. Open and close graves in unstable and hazardous soil conditions while using light and heavy equipment such as a backhoe dump truck and tractor.
  • Operates funeral equipment such as the casket lowering device and vault lowering device in close proximity to personnel.
  • Fine detail work to ensure the grave is clean and presentable for viewing.
  • Placing cremated remains into to column barium wall.
  • Inground cremations require digging a hole by hand to a predetermined depth placing cremains into the ground and replacing turf. The difficulty of these duties may be increased with the added pressure of having the family of the deceased present to observe.
  • Maintenance of cemetery records must be completed with a zerodefect environment.
  • Setting governmentfurnished headstones within 710 days of receipt weather permitting as required by NCA guidelines.
  • Verify the inscription and location of headstones.
  • The systematic alignment and realignment of new and existing makers to meet NCA guidelines.
  • Inspect stones for damage that has occurred from nature machinery and vandalism and notify leadership.
  • Trim grass around headstones on a monthly or asneeded basis to ensure the stone can be properly viewed in accordance with NCA guidelines.
  • Heavy lifting is required regularly at 85 pounds and occasionally at 115 pounds.

Bachelors Degree
Experience:
01 year of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Specialist
OR
Education & ExperienceSubstitution:
34 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Building and Grounds Specialist
