Job Description:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):
Supervise quality inspectors and team leaders across multiple production lines ensuring adherence to quality procedures and product standards.
Serve as the first line of response for qualityrelated issues on the production floor and escalate concerns when necessary.
Monitor inspection processes for frame assembly upholstery finishing and packaging to ensure consistent quality at every stage.
Assist in maintaining documentation for quality checks audits rework and nonconformance tracking.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including Kaizen events process audits and root cause investigations (5 Whys Fishbone etc.).
Following the completion of corrective actions monitors the affected product field failure trend data to verify the effectiveness of corrective actions. Communicate improvements to the entire organization through various media (i.e. newsletter meetings town halls plant meetings staff meetings etc.)
Drives Quality the Source and Self Inspection process to complement the Lean Production Systems.
Promote a zerodefect culture and qualityatthesource mindset through training coaching and ongoing communication.
Remains abreast of the status of the development of new products. Ensure all elements of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) are followed and gate deliverables are met. Provides continuous improvement to new product launch and follows through to full production and sustains superior quality throughout the product life cycle.
Supports the action items and activities of the Dealer Customer Partnership program as they relate to product and process quality improvements. Provides prompt response to the product complaints of External Sales Reps and Associates including acknowledgement of receipt of the complaint and resolution of the product problem.
Ensure the corporate Quality Operating System (QOS) is adopted implemented functioning effectively and continuously improved and the transition to TRANSFORM.
Manages the QIS (Quality Information System) system for gathering data throughout the operations. Assures that measurement systems used in the quality system are appropriate to the current level of the quality system.
Determines the need for statistical methods to analyze variation as appropriate for the level of the quality system. Uses this information to drive a Fact Based Decision Making quality system.
Determines inspection levels and frequency appropriate to the situation.
Manages the quality departments spending and ensures that it meets budget requirements.
SCOPE & IMPACT:
Ensures consistent delivery of worldclass quality products to LaZBoy customers while improving Cost of Quality cost (COQ) and driving customer satisfaction. Provides guidance and oversight for plantwide quality activities and processes. Monitors supplier quality and drive corrective actions to prevent defect propagation.
MINIMIUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education & Experience
o Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or business or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
o Minimum 6 years experience in a medium to high volume productionrelated environment with quality emphasis.
Certification (preferred)
o Understanding of ASQ CQM body of knowledge (CQM certification meets requirements). ASQ certification CQE and/or CMQ/OE preferred
o Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification or experience
Technical Knowledge
o Knowledge of COQ (cost of quality) and how it relates to problem solving.
o Knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques for quality control data analysis and decision making.
o Knowledge and experience of quality tools like control plans SPC FMEA DOE QFD 6sigma
o Understanding of quality management systems like ISO9000 (ISO/QS requirements).
o Strong problemsolving skills and experience with a formal problemsolving methodology (KTPSDM 8D or equivalent)
Soft Skills
o Quality leadership / quality management knowledge
o Strong quality planning controlling and process control methodologies knowledge
o Strong team building /facilitation skills
o Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to develop implement maintain and improve a problem corrective action process.
o Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
o Ability to travel up to 15% occasionally with little notice.
Software Skills
o Knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques for quality control data analysis and decision making.
o PC application skills (MS Office etc.)
o Experience with a formal project management methodology
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directly supervises between 5 and 25 quality personnel depending on plant size and shift.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Operates in both an office environment and a manufacturing environment including indoor environmental conditions and noise. Continuously required to stand hear listen talk walk bend stoop kneel or squat. Occasionally required to sit use repetitive hand motion pull push and lift up to 20 pounds. Flexibility to work different shifts and respond to production needs as needed.
