Job Description

St. James House is accepting applications for a fulltimeAssistant Director of Nursing.

JOB SUMMARY

The AssistantDirector of Nursing works with the Director of Nursing to manage theNursing Department with high professional andpersonal standards. He/She workswith the Director of Nursing toplan organize coordinate and direct the nursing functions for professionaland nonprofessional nursing personnel to ensure thehighest quality of care is provided in a costeffective manner to the residents in thefacility.

The Assistant Directorof Nursing works with the Director of Nursing to exerciseadministrativeauthority responsibility and accountability for nursing serviceobjectives policies and procedures nursingfunctions and activities nursing careand the nursing staff and their training.The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsibleto the Director of Nursing of thefacility.

EDUCATION

He/She must be agraduate of an accredited school of nursing currently registeredwith the state agency for nursing licensure andhold a valid nursing license in thestate he/she is employed.

QUALIFICATIONS

1.Demonstratesleadership and managerial ability.

2.Has the ability to organize plan and supervisethe Nursing Department incoordination with other residentservices.

3.Demonstrates the ability to lead the NursingDepartment in a cost effectiveprofessionalmanner.

4.Maintainseffective interpersonal relationships.

5.Iscapable of implementing changes as mandated by Federal State andmanagementsuggestions.

6.Is of good emotional mental and physical healthhaving sound judgment andhigh professional standards.

7.Is courteous in working with residents familiesand employees.

8.Maintainsa neat wellgroomed and professional appearance at all times.

9.Has a desire to work with the geriatric residentsand their current andprospectiveneeds.

10.Mustbe willing to be in the facility working with the staff of each shift atvarying times.

11.Must be willing to be in and/or available to thefacility weekends as well asweekdays.

12.Must demonstrate ability to followrecommendations as designated by theCorporate Nurse.

13.Must demonstrate ability to evaluate the geriatricresidents needs andimplementsystems to meet these needs.

14.Must demonstrate ability to evaluate nursing staffneeds and implementsystems toassure staff education is provided to provide quality are.

15.Must demonstrate the ability to function as acooperative team member withalldisciplines in the facility.

16.Must demonstrate the ability to manage NursingDepartment withindesignated staffing and supply budget.

17.Is willing and capable of providing emergency careas needed for any residentin the facility.

18.Must have a preemployment and an annualTuberculosis screeningexamination.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Directorof Nursing workswiththe Director of Nursing to assure thefollowing responsibilities are accomplished

1.Evaluatesplans and organizes nursing care according to established policies.

2.Assists in prescreening room assignment anddischarge of residents.

3.Sees that a nurse accompanies all physiciansmaking rounds and that all ordersarecarried out.

4.Supervises all nursing activities and promotesimprovement in nursing care.

5.Makes rounds on all residents daily.

7.Maintains accurate reporting and recordingaccording to policies andproceduresevaluates and makes recommendations for improvements for thewelfare of the resident.

8.Maintains comfort and pleasant environment andpromotes elimination ofhazards.

9.Sees that supplies are available in properquantities that equipment isavailablein good condition and that personnel using such supplies andequipment know where such are to be found and knowthe proper care anduse.

10.Receives thorough reports from Charge Nurses on allshifts and works closelywiththem to insure maximum total care.

11.Gives daily report on conditions in nursingservice to the Administrator.

12.Responsible for assuring accurate recording ofmedications and narcoticsaccordingto procedures.

13.Participates in nursing care as needed and isresponsible for the directhandlingof any emergency situation which may arise.

14.Is responsible for the overall assessment andInterdisciplinary Care Planningprocess.

15.Makes rounds daily implements interventions asindicated.

16.Sees that all personnel on the shift are orientedto the duties assigned tothem.

17.Assignspersonnel according to various skills in relation to resident needs.

18.Stimulatesinterest and attitudes in personnel to develop understanding ofandencourage health and restorative nursing practices.

19.Gives guidance to personnel as needed evaluatesperformance discussesprogress and needs for improvement andprepares evaluation ofperformance asdirected.

20.Prepares and posts time schedules at least twoweeks in advance of days beingscheduled.

21.Sees that personnel are familiar with fire drillregulations and procedures anddisasterplan.

22.Assists in interpreting the goals and objectivesof the facility to nursing servicepersonnel.

23.Assists with interviewing evaluating and selectingnew personnel.

24.Defines duties and interprets policies of nursingservice.

25.Verifies time worked on personnel time cards asnecessary.

26.Conducts orientation and educational pprogramsfor nursing personnel.

27.Arranges and conducts staff meetings monthly.

28.Promotes effective working relationships with theadministrator medicalstaffpersonnel volunteers and agencies and management staff affiliatedwith the facility.

29.Delegates responsibility and authority.

30.May terminate undesirable personnel according topolicy with the approval of the Administrator.

31.Performs other tasks as assigned.

32. Attends requiredstaff inservices meetings orientation and continuing education activitiesas required.
