Job Description

Job Summary

Position is responsible for the daily operation and administration of an assigned school. Position is responsible for supervising staff creating a safe environment monitoring curriculum budget development and other duties associated with the successful operation of a school.

Essential Duties

  1. Supervises an assigned schools educational program.

  1. Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all School Board policies and regulations by the schools staff and students.

  1. Assists in the development revisions and evaluations of the schools curriculum and instructional program.

  1. Supervises all professional paraprofessional administrative and nonprofessional personnel assigned to the

school.

  1. Assists in the recruiting screening hiring training assigning and evaluating of the schools professional staff.

  1. Assumes responsibility for the safety and administration of the school plant.

  1. Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the Principal.

  1. Budgets school time to provide for the efficient conduct of school instruction and business.

  1. Plans and supervises fire drills and an emergency preparedness program.

  1. Maintains high standards of student conduct and enforces discipline as necessary according to the due process rights of students.

  1. Asserts leadership in times of civil disobedience in school in accordance with established School Board policy.

  1. Supervises and evaluates the schools extracurricular program.

  1. Assists in the inservice orientation and training of teachers with special responsibility for staff administrative procedures and instructions.

  1. Supervises the preparation of all school reports for the School Board Office.

  1. Makes recommendations concerning the schools administration and instruction.

  1. Assumes responsibility for the attendance conduct and health of students.

  1. Assists in the management and preparation of the school budget.

  1. Assumes responsibility for competent management of the schools quarterly allotment.

  1. Purchases materials and supplies for the efficient operation of the school.

  1. Supervises the maintenance of accurate records on the progress and attendance of students.

  1. Acts as liaison between the school and the community interpreting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life.

  1. Develops handbooks newsletter and memos to communicate the schools programs policies and procedures to the community student and staff.

  1. Makes arrangements for special conferences between parents and teachers.

  1. Participates in the development of individual educational plans for all students requiring special services.

  1. Serves as the exofficio member of individual educational plans for all committees established for the implementation of the instructional programs and for providing input of an advisory nature to the schools program.

  1. Recommends the removal of a teacher whose work is unsatisfactory according to established procedures.

  1. Conducts meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school.

  1. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Other Duties

  1. Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with professional societies to keep abreast of developments

and research in the profession.

  1. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or other appropriate administrator.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and/or Abilities Required)

Must possess a Masters degree and Virginia Postgraduate Professional License. Licensed in administration or have earned a minimum of 18 hours in school administration. Five (5) years successful experience as a

teacher administrator or supervisor with some experience on the assigned level. Such alternative experience as the School Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone to enter data into a computer terminal/typewriter and to perform; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms outdoors and on the telephone; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height; to bend to stoop to sit on the floor to climb stairs to walk and to reach overhead.
