DescriptionEnhances the quality of patient care by influencing safe appropriate and costeffective pharmacotherapeutics through verifying medication orders consulting with doctors and nurses on the appropriate dosing and selection of therapeutic alternatives for patients and assisting the physician by monitoring the metabolic and nutritional needs of the patient. The Pharmacy Resident is a clinical pharmacist in training who provides comprehensive pharmaceutical care through integrated drug distribution clinical services and teaching. The resident provides services consistent with other services provided by all types of pharmacists at OLOL.
Responsibilities- Pharmaceutical Care
- Provide pharmaceutical care by assisting the medical staff in selecting therapy regimens that costeffectively meet individual patient needs.
- Reviews and processes medication orders when required to ensure safe and effective use.
- Monitors drug therapy to ensure appropriate use.
- Serves as the clinical specialist on call to provide clinical coverage and mentoring for all personnel who require clinical pharmacy expertise and consultation.
- Quality and Performance Improvement
- Maintains competency in unique aspects of drug therapy for the patients for which they provide care including factors related to patients of all age groups.
- Performs patient care rounds with an emphasis on identifying drug therapy issues and optimizing medication therapy plans.
- Develops educational materials and provides educational programs for the pharmacy nursing and physician staff and other hospital personnel. Prepares and disseminates educational materials on new medications policies and protocols.
- Detects monitors documents and reports adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and medication errors (MEs)
- Participates in the Quality Management programs for the Department. Develops and implements quality assurance/improvement drug usage evaluations and productivity monitors for integrated clinical services.
- Helps to maintain costs by achieving department objectives.
- Collaboration and Partnership
- Mentors and precepts pharmacy students consistent with academic credentials and clinical experience.
- Active in professional organizations. Demonstrates commitment to broadening clinical knowledgebase on a continual basis.
- Participates in research projects that are in concert with the goals and objectives of the department. Promotes and assists research and publications efforts.
- Assists in the development and monitoring of clinical services integration.
- Communicates effectively with patients physicians visitors and other employees in a courteous friendly and helpful manner.

QualificationsExperience: Experience in institutional pharmacy practice is desirable but not required.
Education: Doctor of Pharmacy

License:
- Licensed or eligible for licensure as a pharmacist in the state of Louisiana. If not licensed at the start of residency the candidate must be licensed within three months of starting their residency as outlined in the resident contract.
